WELCOME! We are currently looking for a Prior Authorization Coordinator to join the IPMR family! This benefit-eligible role is 36 hours and 5 days per week.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES: This position is responsible for obtaining pre-certifications and pre-authorizations for imaging ordered by our physicians as well as prescriptions written by our physicians.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Prior Authorization Coordinator reports to the billing manager and may receive direction from an adminstrator and/or physicians.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Effectively utilize the EMR as well as online authorization sites for medication programs, i.e.; AIM, Evicore, Jiva, etc.
  • Copy, fax and mail documents and information as requested by insurance carriers
  • Verify patient s insurance eligibility
  • Initiate and complete all prior authorization to include; imaging and prescriptions requests
  • Create accurate and complete telephone encounters to route all information needed for provider to make informed decision easily. This includes Rx name, last fill date, last appt., next appt. and other pertinent information.
  • Other duties as requested.
  • Obtaining authorizations from insurance companies for procedures
  • Assisting with front desk at the surgery center

EDUCATION: High school graduate or equivalent. Technical training in healthcare field desired.

EXPERIENCE: Previous experience in prior authorizations a plus

Familiarity with medical billing procedures desired. Must have strong organizational skills. And have the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, patients, organizations and the public.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Basic computer skills.

ABILITIES:

  • Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instruction.
  • Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric systems.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle many tasks/projects simultaneously
  • Ability to be proactive - anticipate problems before they occur.

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in a busy office environment and requires desk work. Frequent contact with employees, patients and outside agencies. Public contact may involve dealing with angry or upset people.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Sitting required for extended periods of time. Manual dexterity for using a computer keyboard. Bending and stooping required.
