Job Summary:

As a Power Electronics Engineer, you will assist the Engineering team responsible for continuous improvement and manufacturing support. This position requires a direct relationship with Manufacturing, Purchasing, RMA, Quality, and the Sales team. You will touch every part of the product development lifecycle, from conceptual design, system engineering, and component selection to implementation, testing, and qualification. You will assist in efforts driving value engineering and supporting the continuous evolution of the product range.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support production, RMAs and highly escalated customer cases, failure analysis, and Value Engineering (VA/VE) initiatives.
  • Own components obsolescence and alternate component management to ensure business continuity, qualify alternate designs and alternate components, as necessary.
  • Work closely with the quality team and drive continuous improvements of released products.
  • Work closely with the product development team, participate in design reviews, and be the “voice of the customer” in driving defect free designs based on existing designs and lessons learned.
  • Provide assistance in the Engineering to Order (Specials) organization and engage with sales / customer from the bid specification stage to delivering an engineered preproduction model(s). Initiate accurate documentation release for the future production build of this product.
  • Own complete system engineering layout and component selection responsibility for Engineering to Order (Specials) projects.
  • Work closely with cross functional team with a diverse array of talents and responsibilities.
  • Ensure goals are met in areas including customer satisfaction, on time delivery, safety, quality, and team performance.
  • Sign off specific engineering change notifications (ECN), review for accuracy, and guide closure.
  • Produce accurate and timely reporting of program status throughout its life cycle.
  • Analyze program risks and triggering actions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 4 years in a Sustaining Engineering or Design Engineering role.
  • Experience with on-line, dual conversion uninterruptible power supply (UPS), battery storage systems, and various battery chemistries.
  • Experience with the design, analysis, and troubleshooting of electronic circuits.
  • Experience with electronic device characteristics, gate drivers, thermal design, magnetics, and power electronics topologies (AC/DC, DC/DC & DC/AC).
  • Experience with PCB design tools such as Altium.
  • Experience with Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in Power Electronics.
  • Experience with MATLAB or SPICE based simulator.
  • A self-starter with a focus on detail.
  • Ability to review component stress, requirements, and parts selection.
  • Exposure to military power supply requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Certification knowledge is a plus (EMI, EMC and MIL).
  • Ability to work with a diverse departmental team under pressure.
  • Have a continuous improvement mindset with decision making skills in alignment with business needs.
  • Ability to execute multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously while maintaining existing schedule.
  • Understand document control protocols.
  • Ability to use oscilloscope and power meters and experience using other test equipment for a variety of tasks and experimental applications.
  • Read and understand schematics.
