Job Summary:

Operate spray painting equipment to apply protective coatings and paints to fabricated structural steel material or work in the set up or take down areas.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Select the appropriate paint or mix paint according to pre-determined formula

· Operate equipment to clean, wash, strip, sand, remove corrosion, fill dents or otherwise prepare fabricated steel items for application of paint or product coatings.

· Operate spray, dip or flow coating equipment or other painting or product coating equipment as required.

· Clean and maintain painting and coating, ventilation compressed air and personal protective equipment

· Prepare and apply stencils, computer generated decals and barcodes on the finished products.

· Hang sheets for powder coating

Competencies:

· Knowledge with Resinous. Solvent drying paints, Catalyzed or polymerized paints, Bituminous coatings, Fire retardant coatings, Anti-Fouling paints and Inhibiting coatings

· Understanding of general structural steel product

· Surface preparation methods of sandblasting, Abrasive and chemical techniques, Masking and Etching.

· Must know how to select appropriate paint or mix paints.

· Operate equipment to prepare steel for application

· Prepare and apply stencils, decals and computer generated bar codes.

Education and/or Experience:

· Some college/vocational or technical training or actual experience preferred.

· Essential skills- must be able to read specifications, reading text, document use, numeracy, writing and oral communication, working with others, problem solving skills, critical thinking, job task planning and organization.

Training/Certifications/Other

· Any Industrial Painting Certificate preferred
