The Janssen R&D Discovery, Product Development, & Supply (DPDS) Postdoctoral Fellowship Program helps early career scientists gain the training and experience needed to further their careers, while addressing the needs of global healthcare. Janssen DPDS Postdocs work side-by-side with Janssen scientists on innovative research projects and have the opportunity to present and publish their work. They also learn the functional role of scientists in the pharmaceutical industry and receive valuable career advice from mentors while building a network of professional contacts and developing the skills needed to advance their careers.

The candidate will join the API Cell Therapy Process Development team where they will investigate/optimize novel metabolic and process parameters within the autologous manufacturing process to produce more potent and durable CAR-T cells for oncology indications. In addition to T cell metabolism work, the Postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to learn and participate in the development of next generation autologous cell therapy manufacturing process design.

This candidate will work independently and as a part of the team to:

• Conduct research and development activities to design optimal media formulation and process parameters to be used in manufacturing of CAR-T cell therapy products
• Design and implement analytical methods with sufficient sensitivity and throughput to characterize cell therapy drug product
• Interact with various cross-functional teams focused on innovative engineered cell therapy platform development

The candidate is expected to present and publish their research. Troubleshooting skills are critical. The candidate will demonstrate urgency, be organized, have the ability to work well in a team setting and be sensitive to timelines.

Upon completion of the postdoctoral program, the Fellow will have acquired valuable career experience that enables entry into process and product development field, biotech-related opportunities, and/or continued development in large pharma.

Qualifications

• Recent Ph.D. in the Biological Sciences, Immunology, Cellular Metabolism, Biomedical Engineering or a related discipline is required
• A working background in T cell biology and metabolism with hands on experience in primary T cell culture and gene engineering
• Knowledge and experience in autologous CAR-T cell therapy
• Experience with analytical assays including flow cytometry, ELISAs, cytokine release assays, mitochondrial membrane potential assays and metabolic profiling using Nova Bioprofile or BGA
• Must have excellent communication, interpersonal and collaborative skills and demonstrate deep intellectual curiosity
• The ability to independently design and execute research is required
• Location availability in Spring House, PA is required
• Must be permanently authorized to work in the U.S. and must not require sponsorship at the time of hire or in the future
