WORK SCHEDULE: This position is full-time regular and exempt. Work schedule is typically Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. May require working weekends and evenings.

ABOUT YOUTHCARE: YouthCare works to end youth homelessness and to ensure that young people are valued for who they are and empowered to achieve their potential. Founded in 1974, YouthCare was one of the first programs to serve runaway and homeless youth on the West Coast. The goal was to help young people find safety today and build a future for tomorrow. Over four decades, we’ve defined best practices and developed programs that are a national standard for excellence. Using a youth-centered approach, we ensure that young people experiencing homelessness ages 12-24 have the hope, skills, and confidence to gain long-term stability.
ABOUT THE DEVELOPMENT TEAM: YouthCare’s Development Department provides young people and staff at YouthCare with the support and items young people need to get off the streets and prepare for life. The Development Department is responsible for fundraising, community engagement, external communications, public policy work, volunteer, and in-kind donation management, and much more!

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Community Campaign Project Director, the Philanthropy Officer will work collaboratively with the Development team and agency leadership to implement tailored strategies to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual major donors and prospects. This position will build an annual stewardship plan, ensuring for robust and authentic relationships with key YouthCare supporters and prospective and existing major donors. This position will provide strategic thinking and project management support to meet annual revenue goals. In addition, the Philanthropy Officer will be responsible for building and supporting a new board alumni group.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage a portfolio of 100 leadership donors and prospects using successful identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship methods to meet and exceed personal and team fundraising goals.
- Scope of work includes 40% managing Community Campaign donors and prospects, 40% managing General Operating donors and prospects, and 20% strategy setting, thought-partnership, and record-tracking.
- Secure major gifts of $5,000+ in support of the community campaign and general operating fund in accordance with agency and department goals.
- Serve as central task and strategy manager for your donor portfolio to meet mutually agreed upon goals and objectives.
- Build major donor stewardship calendar to foster relationships with prospective and existing major donors to deepen their connection to YouthCare’s mission and build donor loyalty.
- Contribute to multi-year growth plans to develop and implement effective, creative, and personalized strategies for increased giving.
- Collaborate with key staff to develop content for customized mission impact materials (paper and digital) for current and prospective major donors and other key community stakeholders.
- Facilitate meaningful interaction for donors and prospects to strengthen their connection to YouthCare’s work and impact.
- Build trusted relationships and confidence with YouthCare’s donors, board of directors, and key stakeholders.
- Create, manage, and/or support donor cultivation events in support of fundraising goals and objectives.
- Be a collaborative thought-partner in support of Community Campaign and Fund Development strategies.
- Develop and lead a planned giving program at YouthCare.
- Utilize Raiser’s Edge/NXT to document actions, opportunities and key information to support relationship management and inform giving and stewardship strategies.
- Work with Director of Development and Database Specialist to support gift tracking and timely acknowledgment.
- Serve as an ambassador and momentum creator for YouthCare’s mission in a variety of environments.
- Build and maintain working knowledge of youth homelessness, Seattle homelessness trends, and YouthCare’s programs and remain consistently updated on changing and nuanced donor messaging and be able to answer a myriad of questions or redirect to appropriate staff.
- Support YouthCare’s Fund Development department in all its endeavors to reach annual revenue goals and overall departmental success.

QUALIFICATIONS –
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (communications, public relations, social work, other) or equivalent related experience.
- Five years of progressively responsible fundraising experience, with demonstrated success in donor cultivation and major gifts solicitation.
- Demonstrated ability to secure 5- and 6-figure philanthropic gifts from individuals and/or foundations.
- Exceptional attention to detail and time management; ability to work autonomously.
- Excellent relationship-building and interpersonal communication skills required; demonstrated experience working with board members and leadership volunteers.
- Knowledge of fund development best practices and possess the ability to work with high levels of integrity and confidentiality.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while remaining focused on the needs of the young people we serve.
- Proficiency in Raiser’s Edge (or similar donor CRM), Microsoft Office programs.
- Demonstrated computer skills in MS Office, interest in learning new software.
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills; impeccable follow-through on task and commitment.
- Ability to work independently as well as within a team.
- Ability to work effectively and maintain positive relationships with internal staff members and external constituents.
- Ability to effectively represent YouthCare in the community.
- Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information appropriately and with discretion.
- Understanding of youth homelessness and individuals who experience housing instability.

- High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience and credentials must comply with program contractual requirements, including but not limited to the Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) background clearance process and must be at least 21 years of age.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience with Community or Capital Campaigns
- Certificate completion in Nonprofit Management, Social Sciences, Project Management, or related field of study.
- Experience securing gifts of 7-figures or greater.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Must be able to provide I-9 supporting documentation for employment.
- Ability to provide a negative TB Test (results must be within one-year of hire date).
- Employees who drive YouthCare vehicles as a requirement for their position, must be at least 21 years of old, possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License, meet minimum safe driver criteria established by the agency and our insurance company which includes completion of Defensive Driving and 15-passenger Van trainings. Drivers under the age of 25 must have been licensed for at least three years and those operating vehicles with a capacity of 15 or more passengers must be at least 25 years old.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to perform range of physical motions, exerting up to 50 pounds. Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds; standing, walking, sitting for long periods of time, kneeling, squatting, and stooping; running for brief periods of time; and go up and down stairs.
- Ability to work at a computer screen for extended periods of time and execute data entry activities as needed.
