Position Summary:Under the supervision of the PACE Therapy Supervisor the Therapy Aide provides support to the therapy team in the delivery of therapy care to participants. Therapyaides perform nonmedical tasks, such as setting up and cleaning treatment rooms and transporting patients to different areas of a health care facility.
Essential Functions of the Job:
- Assist with patient intake.
- Preparation of equipment.
- Preparing hot and cold packs.
- Transporting patients.
- Observing patients.
- Scheduling and tracking of Therapy Department logistics.
- Documenting patients' communication, responses and progress.
- Liaise with physicians' offices and hospital personnel.
- Responsible for setting up equipment and maintaining a clean and functional area for treatments and exercises.
- Assists other staff in carrying out program assignments.
- Provides support and clerical assistance to therapy staff.
- Assists in maintaining patient areas in a clean and orderly manner. Cleans and organizes program areas including cleaning of equipment and shower areas.
- Follows infectious disease precautions to prevent the spread of organism.
- Attends center staff meetings and in-service educational training programs.
- Active Listening: An ability to hear and carry out precise instructions from the treating therapist.
- Interpersonal Skills: An ability to read other people's cues and react accordingly.
- A strong desire to help others.
- Attention to Detail: Patients have precise exercises that are part of their treatment, and equipment must be prepared properly to handle these. It's also important to keep treatment rooms neat and orderly.
- Critical Thinking: An ability to weigh different options and take decisive action.
- Stamina: Moving and preparing equipment and helping to move patients can be physically demanding some days.
- Compassion: Patients often are recovering from injuries or dealing with other serious health issues. A genuine concern for their recovery or well-being is vital to being a good Therapy aide.
- Communicates effectively with participants and co-workers. Works effectively in a team setting.
- Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings as needed.
- Adheres to SYH and PACE attendance and punctuality policies and practices.
- Follows established PACE and Day Center departmental and position specific policies and procedures and updates as needed.
- Attends meetings as required and participates on committees as directed.
- Maintains health and safety standards at all times, and takes an active role in the Safety and Injury in the Workplace Program; maintains all records and documentation as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested
Must possess the skills necessary to provide care for geriatric patients and must be able to function well in a team environment. Only act within the scope of his or her authority to practice. Meet a standardized set of competencies for the specific position description established by San Diego PACE and approved by CMS before working independently
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Six (6) months experience in a professional or personal care setting.
- Flexibility, initiative, creativity and excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish/Arabic).
- Candidate will be required to have a Driver’s License and current insurance coverage for Home Health Positions.
