The Division of Student Affairs at the State University of New York College at Oneonta invites applications for an exciting new position Outreach Counselor & Engagement Specialist. This position will interact with multiple departments and responsibilities will include facilitating the students of concern applications; outreach and consultation services in Residence Life and Campus Community; and the development and implementation of campus and community resources needed by the student. We are seeking candidates with strong leadership, administrative, and organizational skills. The position reports to the Dean of Students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Outreach Counselor & Engagement Specialist collaborates with employees, students, and community organizations to build a network of supports to assist under-resourced students by leveraging existing community resources, coordinating opportunities for cross-training among existing college supports and personnel, and designing and implementing new programming.

  • In consultation with key college stakeholders, evaluate current student resources and create a strategic two-year plan to scale up efforts to address under-resourced student need and gaps in services by incorporating best practices in goal setting and the development of learning outcomes.
  • Lead person for students of concerns and member of the Behavioral Assessment/Coordination, Assessment, Response, and Education (CARE) Team.
  • Connecting students to wrap-around basic needs services (e.g., food pantry, counseling, health center, emergency aid, benefits screening, and food assistance, etc.); planning and leading cross-training; and supporting interdepartmental collaboration.
  • Support and scale initiatives to address student needs by establishing student-centered goals, connecting community resources and partners to advance current conversations, and conducting student needs assessments.
  • Residence Life outreach or prevention presentations in the residence halls (i.e., stress management, assertiveness skills, etc.).
  • Engage in comprehensive assessment, evaluation, and program improvement by regularly tracking, communicating, and reporting relevant data.
  • Attend relevant trainings and meetings to increase knowledge and expand network of contacts in the community.
  • Plan, organize, and implement campus wide educational programs and participate in outreach activities including but not limited to tabling at key events, integrating information into new student orientations or onboarding processes, presenting to student clubs, and increasing the college's awareness and knowledge of student basic needs through presentations and educational events.

Job Requirements:


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • A minimum of three years' experience in a non-profit, government, or higher education setting is required.
  • Experience working with college students in student services, student affairs, or student development capacities or in social services, social work, counseling, or case management roles.
  • Project or program management experience.
  • Experience developing and running basic needs programming to support college students.
  • Experience working and serving diverse populations.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Social Work, Human Service Management, or related field.
  • Developing and facilitating outreach programs experience.
  • Experience in program development and administration.
  • Experience with problem resolution.
  • Experience presenting both one-on-one and delivering to a large group.
  • Ability to plan own work to meet defined objectives with minimal supervision.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office.
