Outdoor Events Vendor & Bakery/Cafe Assistant

$15.50/hr + tip-share

Job Description

The Bakingtist is a scientifically-grounded bakery that makes artisanal breads, pastries, Groundbreaker cookies, and more! AND! We are finally opened our first Brick n’ Mortar where we are quickly desiring more hands on deck. Right now - we are looking for a team member that can take on selling our baked goods at various farmer’s markets and events, and help in the kitchen as needed. Vendors are responsible for being at the markets and events in all weather conditions (except severe weather). Vendors may transport baked goods and set-up, using a company vehicle or their own.

Job Type

• Part-time, non-exempt position (Approximately 20-28 hours/week)
• Weather-dependent schedule (shifts may be cut short or canceled due to poor weather.)
• Markets (attend one or more of the following):Saturday 5:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Sunday 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Thursday 1:00 PM - 8:00 PM

• Bakery/Cafe schedule will be dependent on your availability and the needs of the Kitchen and Front of House. Can start as early as 4:00 am and end as late as 3:00 pm.
• December 23rd & 31st, January 1st, February 14th, Mother’s Day, and the Wednesday before Thanksgiving may be required for work
• Start date: As soon as possible

Qualifications

Experience, proficiency, and comfort with sales. Skilled at carrying out cleaning, dishwashing, and organization relevant to Health Department regulations.

General Requirements

Physical Requirements

• Ability to maintain a positive sales attitude during all customer-interfacing roles
• Ability to be outside for extended periods of time
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks
• Ability to work accurately and quickly with high production – ensuring consistency and quality
• Ability to read and follow recipes and use math skills
• Ability to regularly lift 50 pounds
• Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time
• Ability to consume at least small amounts of all The Bakingtist food and beverage products to ensure quality
• Ability to manipulate objects (ex. dough and heavy bowls) with both hands

Responsibilities

• Maintain a positive, kind, and helpful attitude while interfacing with customers and other vendor staff, and other market vendors
• Set up and break down market/event tent, tables, signs, and more
• Rehearse and memorize all existing sales phrases and techniques
• Always aim to turn situations into sales & positive experiences for customers
• Maintain respect for customers – put customers first
• Assist bakers by completing preparation tasks, examples include chopping produce, shaping cookie dough, packaging baked goods, putting together sandwiches, organizing the pantry and cooler areas
• Clear the bakery of all trash and debris- regularly sweeping, taking out the trash, and cleaning surfaces
• Clean and maintain bakery equipment such as mixers, sheeters, bread slicer, eggwasher, dishwasher, food processor etc.
• Learn and execute opening and closing duties in the bakery, setting up the shop for success
• Help bus tables and regularly check FOH for dishes and cleaning needs
• Adhere to rules and regulations in the Team Member Handbook, including wearing The Bakingtist attire
• Maintain sanitation and safety standards mandated by government regulations

Education/Credentials

· High school education/GED preferred

· Food Handler (or Manager for Lead) Certification or willing to obtain one

This is a ground floor opportunity as you will be an early employee in the bakery. The startup phase may be stressful and will require a high degree of flexibility.
