Operating Room Department
Level 1 Trauma Center with 17 ORs, Hybrid Suite, Endoscopy suite, Ambulatory Surgical Center providing a range of comprehensive range of surgical specialties. There are many opportunities for growth with our Clinical Nurse Advancement Program (CNAP), shared governance committees, and unit based practice councils where your voice can make a difference.

AORN PERIOP 101
The GWU Hospital AORN Periop 101 residency program is based on the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) Perioperative 101. It is innovatively designed to provide intense post-graduate training for newly license nurses. The paid 24-week program combines blended learning of didactic, skills practice, eLearning and clinical rotations (circulating and scrubbing) in an acute care setting. The preceptors are selected by the Operating Room Educator in conjunction with the new interns. The interns and preceptor spend time together reviewing behavior, interpersonal and basic medical surgical knowledge. Upon completion, the newly license nurses are equipped with the knowledge and skill set typically found in a more experienced staff nurse. The program also includes monthly classes, debriefing sessions, an evidence based project, and Nurse Residency Coordinator oversight.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Provide individual, patient-centered approach to patients with a wide range of diagnoses.
  • Ensure safe and sterile field by monitoring the overall environment of the OR.
  • Collaborate care with multi-disciplinary teams to provide safe, competent nursing care for patients in accordance with facility policies, standards, and philosophy.
  • Maintain strong and open communication skills.

Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited or NLN-approved RN program.
  • ACLS, NRP (or obtained within three months of employment)
  • BLS
  • Current state nursing license. DC RN license eligible
  • Min 1 year of Acute Care settings experience
