Function
Nile Sisters Development Initiative (NSDI), a Los Angeles, California 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization is seeking a part-time Nursing Instructor to teach in the LearnMore Nurse Assistant Training Program (NATP). Reporting to the RNPD (Registered Nurse Program Director), the Nursing Instructor (LVN) provides orientation and training to students seeking to become Certified Nurse Assistants. The Nursing Instructor provides other assistive functions at the school and at assigned clinical training sites.
Duties & Responsibilities
The below functions are not exhaustive and may be altered by Leadership to the extent it aligns with the position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
- Comply with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) California Code of Regulations (CCR) Title 22.
- Implement classroom and clinical instruction according to the state-approved curriculum.
- Prepare and present classroom instruction, clinical training, and related activities.
- Assess and identify students' instructional needs in LearnMore and help to address the needs.
- Conduct classroom and clinical activities in accordance with approved LearnMore requirements.
- Practice excellence in teaching and instruction, including but not limited to, instructional counseling, clinical training, and academic advising.
- Complete student records in a timely manner during and at the completion of the training.
- Coordinate with the RNPD to identify students’ needs for education and instruction.
- Complete daily theory training and clinical training attendance forms.
- Administer and grade student quizzes and tests.
- Identify students whose work performance does not conform to the Policies and Procedures Manual; Communicate these occurrences to the RNPD.
- Ensure that students meet the requirements of each clinical training site agreement.
- Monitor students’ performance and provide immediate supervision of students in clinical training while they demonstrate clinical skills.
- Responsible for no other clinical responsibilities while supervising students in clinical training.
- Evaluate students and record grades on appropriate forms.
- Provide for the health and safety of students.
- Inform students about knowledge and skills evaluation procedures and course completion requirements.
- Conduct review sessions to prepare students for their state competency evaluation.
- Conduct courses in a manner consistent with course design.
- Adhere to LearnMore Policies and Procedures.
- Provide supervision of NATP in the short-term absence of the RNPD.
- Attend clinical training site orientations and serve as a liaison between the site and the RNPD.
- Perform other duties when not in the classroom or at clinical training sites with students as may be assigned by the RNPD.
- Perform other functions and special programs assigned by RNPD.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Possess a valid and current Licensed Vocational Nurse or Registered Nurse license
- Possess a Director of Staff Development (DSD) certificate, or be willing to obtain one at the agency’s expense, and meet the requirements stated in CCR Title 16
- A minimum of 2 years' nursing experience working with patients
- A minimum of 1-year experience as a licensed vocational nurse providing direct patient care in a nursing facility or a long-term care facility
- Previous teaching experience in a nursing-related field
- Possess excellent communication and organizational skills
- Obtain approval from the CDPH prior to teaching any NATP class
Working Conditions, Job Setting, & Benefits
- Part-time, hourly position; DOE.
- Work will be performed in school and clinical settings and at NSDI headquarters in an office setting and requires the use of electronic equipment, including a computer, telephone, etc.
- Flexibility in schedule, including scheduled evenings and weekends, as required by the school schedule
- Visual/hearing ability sufficient to comprehend written, verbal, and telephone communication
- Ability to sit for long periods; standing; computer entry; walking; reaching; and repeated bending, lifting, and carrying up to 20 lbs.
