Nursing Director for Small School Setting
Full-time, Monday-Friday 12-month position
Salary: Negotiable
Statement of Duties: The Nursing Director is a 12-month position responsible for developing, implementing and managing a school health program for a school/ residential population. Responsibilities include program management, nursing services including medication administration and oversight, collaboration with other members of the interdisciplinary team, providing health education to students, and supervising the other nurses in the department.
Responsibilities:
1. Consults with the school physician, psychiatrist, school administrators, supervisors and others to establish, review and revise policies, procedures and specific programs for school health services.
2. Works with others to develop a needs assessment and data collection procedures.
3. Ensures the orientation, training, supervision and evaluation of paraprofessionals in relation to medication administration and documentation as needed to comply with regulations.
4. Coordinate annual medical and dental appointments.
5. Organizes and implements state-mandated programs such as immunization surveillance and screening programs.
6. Maintains comprehensive school health records.
7. Carries out communicable disease prevention and infection control based on current guidelines for universal precautions, prevention of blood borne pathogens exposure and hazardous medical waste disposal.
8. Responsible to ensure that all health related State and Federal regulatory requirements are followed and to ensure that the healthcare policies are implemented effectively to the best of his/her ability.
Medication Management
1. Responsible for medication management including narcotic counts, medication inventory, ordering medications, and packing for home visits.
2. Responsible for collecting medication upon student arrival and the distribution of medication for departing students.
3. Participates in medication review sessions with psychiatrist.
4. Coordinates parental notification and consent for medication.
Nursing Services
1. Provides medically prescribed interventions, including medication administration (based on state regulations)
2. Provides care to ill children on a daily basis
3. Responsible to coordinate parental notification and consent for all medication changes.
4. Provides first aid to injured children and staff; provides everyday care of acutely ill children; manages children with communicable disease
5. Assesses student response to nursing action
6. Documents pertinent information in student record or confidential nursing notes
7. Ensures Health care policies and procedures are effectively implemented
8. Ensures residences are equipped with appropriate first aid supplies
9. Participates in on call schedule, responding to pages and calls while “on call”.
10. Responsible for coordination of periodic medical and dental appointments and vision screening for students.
11. Responsible to implement the onsite nursing schedule and provide 24 hour on call coverage for medical needs including response to pages and calls while on call either on or off campus.
12. The Nursing Director is required to learn crisis intervention skills, including techniques for physical intervention, in the case that it is necessary to protect a student or others from imminent danger.
Qualifications:
1. Must have a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts.
2. Must hold a diploma or degree, baccalaureate degree preferred, in nursing from an accredited nursing program.
4. Maintain certification in cpr and first aid from a recognized provider.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $44.00 - $47.00 per hour
