Night Shift Maintenance Supervisor

Efficiently manage maintenance resources (personnel, outside contractors, hardware, software, equipment, tools and parts inventory) in the support of the physical plant and plant production operations during all seven days of weekly production and sanitation. Look to reduce maintenance department costs and to maximize plant uptime by scheduling preventative maintenance in the interest of eliminating “fire maintenance”.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • With support from accounting and the maintenance department clerk, use info in the CMMS and SAP to construct a framework for managing department funds with the goal of budgeting/planning, controlling/minimizing and tracking (for equipment replacement studies) departmental costs.
  • Utilize all aspects of CMMS to the extent requested by upper management and accounting.
  • Handle all paperwork related to EPA, OSHA and MWRD. Share this responsibility with the plant Safety Director.
  • Interact with upper management to seek approval for large purchases related to the maintenance group.
  • Share on-call duties with other maintenance and engineering personnel.
  • HR related duties for department: time sheet approval, vacation scheduling, training, overtime allocation, departmental meeting, etc.
  • Work to improve maintenance department personnel technical skills utilizing internal and external training.
  • Work on improved communication between the maintenance group and other departments – and also between groups/individuals with the maintenance department.
  • Analyze need for additional personnel as needed.
  • Strike a balance for outside contractor usage.
  • Audit documentation support (assist QA with BRC, AIB and other customer audits). Regular use of CMMS records and other documentation to satisfy reporting requirements.
  • Provide technical support to the QA group when they are researching a foreign material incident.
  • Manage the operation of the process of wastewater pretreatment system; schedule/manage personnel, chemical ordering, repairs and working through upgrades with Engineering.
  • Manage the operation of the plant boiler and hot water heating systems: schedule/manage personnel, chemical ordering, repairs and working through upgrades with Engineering
  • Manage the operation of the plant compressed air system: schedule/manage personnel, chemical ordering, repairs and working through upgrades with Engineering.
  • Utilize Engineering as a support tool and partner in keeping the plant operational and efficient.
  • Manage and improve the CMMS work order system (add/modify PM’s as plant needs and common sense dictate). Expand to packaging machines by interacting with packaging equipment maintenance group as directed by upper management.
  • Seek out weekly room downtime info from the scheduling group, so work orders and mini-projects for areas can be efficiently tackled.
  • Hands on support when needed: when multiple “fires” arise or during a period with reduced workforce.
  • Support of plant projects to accommodate their typical compressed timeframe characteristic. Work to make manpower available by delaying PM’s and increasing the short term use of outside contractors.
  • Balance use of maintenance personnel resources between plant project, breakdowns and PM’s.
  • Request proper documentation from Engineering on related equipment when needed info is lacking.
  • Update/improve/maintain maintenance department process/building systems information folders for reference during repairs (utilize internal resources to assist with this).
  • Manage spare parts store. Properly organize and maintain the inventory in the CMMS.
  • Keep the maintenance shop and the remote parts storage area organized per audit requirements.
  • Manage items in parts store. Strike a balance between parts readily available from suppliers and parts that must be purchased and stored onsite. Review large dollar spare parts purchases with upper management utilizing a risk assessment approach. Aim for standardization to minimize spare parts inventory.

    • Ability to conduct appropriate accident/incident investigation reporting.
  • Review and execute our Food Safety Plan and MFP Mission Statement in order to provide value to each of our customers with safe, relevant, tasty food products; while never compromising quality.
