Job Description

Centralia College ("CC" or the "College") seeks a Navigator/esports coordinator to assist in the delivery of comprehensive specialized services to enhance the retention and completion results of students at Centralia College. The navigator/esports coordinator will employ proactive interventions for at-risk students, academic progress monitoring, general systems navigation, educational planning to support retention, persistence and completion. This position will be responsible for retention efforts and support for student athletes and for a comprehensive call-out program to assist students with college transition. In addition to navigator duties, this position is also responsible for the development and implementation of the esports program, team management, recruitment, equipment monitoring, participant training/coaching, and administration of the program budget. The navigator/esports coordinator will coordinate competition and practice schedules, marketing, and broadcasting. This position follows National Junior College Athletic Association Esports (NJCAAE) and any other associated leagues' policies and regulations and address any barriers to the success of the esports program. This position reports to the director of Student Life & Involvement.

Duties and Responsibilities

Navigator:

  • Develop, manage and facilitate a student contact program to assist with college transition and to provide support throughout the quarter;
  • Coordinate study halls to support and enhance retention and completion for student athletes and the general student body;
  • Respond to an academic early warning intervention alert and provide follow-up services for referred students to identify and apply retention and completion strategies; Work within programs already in place to monitor and facilitate a degree completion intervention process to alert students to the graduation process;
  • Provide timely and accurate educational information to students regarding pathways, degrees, certificates, courses, college policies and procedures as well as campus resources;
  • Work with students on topics to include study skills, college and career planning, financial aid processes, scholarship searches, test preparation and motivation assessments;
  • Assist students in identifying effective problem-solving skills, self-advocacy approaches, decision making and personal responsibility;
  • Disseminate information on programs and services to students, College staff and the community; and
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

esports Coordinator:

  • Develop and maintain a competitive esports program within the guidelines and philosophy of the College and the NJCAAE;
  • Encourage CC students to participate in NJCAAE Intramurals;
  • Recruit student participants within the rules and regulations of the NJCAAE and CC;
  • Conduct coaching and instructional activities during training, practice and competition; create practice and game schedules;
  • Develop and adhere to budgetary guidelines as established by CC;
  • Coordinate with Student Life to integrate the team into the campus and support the larger on-campus gaming community;
  • Fundraising to support the esports program.
  • Support student development through participation in co-curricular activities; and
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Student Services or related field from an institutionally accredited college or university;
  • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible work experience preferably in an educational setting in providing direct support to students;
  • Knowledge and experience with esports games;
  • Ability to envision and drive growth for the development and implementation of an esports program at CC

Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) year of experience working with underprepared adults, first generation college students, and/or students with special needs; experience in a community college setting; and one (1) year of experience coaching or teaching esports OR equivalent education/experience.

This is a twelve (12) month per year, full-time exempt professional/technical position. The salary is $45,000 - $47,000 annually depending on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. Continuance of this position after the 2022 - 2023 academic year is dependent upon funding. The state of Washington provides a comprehensive benefits package for state employees. The position may participate in the TIAA/CREF retirement system.

Compensation

Annual Salary: $45,000 - $47,000 (DOQ/DOE)
