Career Path I: $41,500 - $61,000
Career Path II: $43,000 - $80,500

Retirement:
As a contract teacher, this position will automatically be enrolled in the Teacher Retirement Fund (TRF) through the state of Indiana, which includes a defined benefit (Pension) as well as an Annuity Savings Account (ASA). In addition, this position is eligible to enroll in a 401(a) retirement investment plan, a 403(b) Match Program, and a tax-free post-retirement medical expense account (VEBA).

SUMMARY:
The EVSC is seeking an accomplished teacher for 6-8 grade bands at McGaruy Middle School. Responsibilities include beginning 6th grade level band instruction through 8th grade advanced band at Plaza Park and assisting in other portions of the Harrison High School program. The qualified candidate should demonstrate a high level of performance on their primary band instrument, as well as strong knowledge of woodwind/brass/percussion repertoire, curriculum and pedagogy proficiency. He/she will be responsible for starting woodwind/brass/percussion students, leading and conducting multi-level ensembles, and preparing students for competitions and performances. This position works in collaboration with other district music teachers and staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
- Teaches corporation-approved curriculum while creating a classroom and total school environment that is conducive to learning and is appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct and develops and informs students of reasonable rules concerning classroom procedures and behavior and maintains a safe and orderly classroom environment.
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and times designated.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques, instructional media, and performance assessments, which guide the learning process toward academic achievement and curriculum goals.
- Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicates these objectives to the students.
- Assesses the accomplishments of students in a variety of ways on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, corporation policy, and administrative regulations.
- Administers standardized testing as directed by the EVSC and analyzes standardized testing data and adjusts instructional strategies, as needed, to maximize probability of student success.
- Plans and coordinates the work of paraprofessionals, parents, and volunteers (e.g., college students) in the classroom and on field trips.
- Recognizes the special needs of students with learning disabilities, seeks the assistance of corporation specialists, as needed and/or required, and makes appropriate individualized physical and instructional accommodations within the classroom.
- Available to serve on building-level and corporation-wide committees, e.g., textbook adoption, curriculum writing, test analysis, etc.
- Builds effective relationships with parents and students through regular communication and is available outside the instructional day to students and parents for education-related purposes, e.g., open house, conferences, extra-curricular activities, etc.
- Participate in professional growth and development through continuing education, educational seminars, workshops, conferences, membership in professional organizations of the subjects taught, and attendance at corporation-sponsored in-services.
- Directs, attends, and manages all facets of the band concerts, festivals, and solo/ensemble. (After school, evening, and weekend hours will be necessary.)
- Maintains an accurate inventory of instrumental assets as they pertain to the assigned
- Schedules all rehearsals and performances in coordination with building administrators.
- Regularly adheres to EVSC and school policies, procedures, and rules.
- Maintains a strong, regular personal attendance record.
- Completes all other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree.
Experience in band pedagogy and instrumental directing required.
Technological skills required. (curricular software, electronic grade book, etc.)
Piano keyboard skills are strongly recommended.
Should possess a vision for excellence in performing arts at the middle/high school level and a strong desire to achieve success.
Must be skilled to provide instrumental instruction, run an effective performing and recruiting program, and be flexible to work with other artists
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Valid Indiana teaching certificate in appropriate grade level and area of study required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, teachers, school board members, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to prepare, project, monitor and document funds from multiple sources.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
