Medical Support EMT - Resource Center
Job description
Homelessness hurts; we’re here to help! If you have the heart of a “helper” we want you to join our team. Fourth Street Clinic (FSC) in downtown Salt Lake City has been providing those experiencing homelessness with essential healthcare services for 25 years. When you join the growing FSC team, you're not just taking a job, you’re making a real difference in people’s lives.
The Medical Support EMT position is part of FSC’s outreach support team, providing on-site services based at the homeless resource centers in the community. This role acts as a liaison between FSC clinics, resource center staff and patients to address same day and/or urgent needs and is noticeably different in scope from traditional ambulatory EMT roles, but requires the skills, knowledge, and certifications of such roles. This position collaborates with shelter staff, clinic medical providers, or other medical onsite personnel, responding to emergent/acute health needs of patients residing in resource centers in Salt Lake County, communicating with FSC triage staff to review healthcare options for patients.
This role is perfect for people who:
- Have experience as an EMT working with medical clinics.
- Are proactive advocates, driven to fulfill service interactions with clientele.
- Demonstrate relationship-building, case management and effective communication skills.
- Are driven to assist medically vulnerable populations, especially those experiencing homelessness.
- Have prior experience within outreach, community health, or case management
- Are comfortable working in a diverse, multi-cultural setting.
- Speak Spanish (preferred, but this is not essential.)
What’s in it for me?
Intrinsic rewards are wonderful, but we know you have fundamental needs, too. In addition to your competitive hourly wage, FSC has some of the best benefits around! We put employees in a great position to successfully balance work productivity and personal goals:
- We pay 100% of the premium for individual Health Insurance!
- Affordable Dental & Vision coverage
- Company-paid Life & Disability insurances
- 401(k) seeding & employer match!
- Generous Paid Time Off, plus additional personal holidays and wellness days.
- 12 paid holidays where the clinic is closed (11 full days, plus half-days on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve!)
- Tuition Reimbursement & Employee Assistance
Why Fourth Street Clinic?
According to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, many people in the United States don’t get needed health care services due to barriers such as a lack of transportation, affordable housing, educational background, or discrimination. FSC is here to provide services to vulnerable individuals and families, reducing barriers caused by social determinants of health. Wasatch Homeless Health Care, Inc. (doing business as Fourth Street Clinic) began in 1988 as a triage clinic with one part-time nurse, relying on hospitals for patient treatment. Today, FSC operates with a staff of nearly 100 caregivers and an eight-figure annual budget. Last year, we provided comprehensive health care to more than 5,000 unsheltered men, women, and children through more than 20,000 visits in-person on-site, virtually, or through our Mobile Outreach team.
Join a team of dedicated, innovative, mission-driven staff who seek to deliver healthcare to under-resourced members of our community!
Fourth Street Clinic embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion at all levels of our organization, and we strive for every employee to be comfortable being their authentic self at work. We are committed to building a team with a variety of backgrounds, identities, and ideas. We value greater inclusivity which yields greater achievements, fosters belonging, and improves access to high-quality health care for all as an essential human right.
