Medical Assistant Job Description

Confidential company is seeking a talented and qualified Medical Assistant to join our growing group. We are a leading national eyecare service platform, partnering with the most respected eye care practices in the country so providers can focus on delivering the best medical and surgical eye care services. As a Medical Assistant you are responsible for performing a wide variety of medical and clinical support functions in an outpatient clinical setting, such as providing initial patient triage, registration, and administrative services, assists with direct patient care, and performs specialized medical procedures of a routine nature, as determined by established clinical protocol, policies and procedures.

MEDICAL ASSISTANT CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Recoding and updating patient medical histories.
  • Phlebotomy (obtain blood sample)
  • Measuring and recording vital signs.
  • Explain treatment procedures to patients.
  • Preparing patients for examination.
  • Assisting the physicians during examination.
  • Collecting and preparing laboratory tests.
  • Instructing patients about medication.
  • Transmitting prescription refills as directed.
  • Taking electrocardiograms
  • Preparing patients for examination and procedures.
  • Clean exam room
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

MEDICAL ASSISTANT ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform data entry.
  • Schedule appointments.
  • Using computer application.
  • Answering telephones.
  • Welcoming patients.
  • Updating and filling patents medical records.
  • Coding and filling out insurance forms.
  • Arranging laboratory services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of eye-related disorders and conditions.
  • Customer service oriented with excellent analytical skills.

MEDICAL ASSISTANT QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of patient care charts and patient histories.
  • Knowledge of patient evaluation and triage procedures.
  • Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
  • Knowledge of outpatient clinical administrative procedures.
  • Knowledge of safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods.
  • Knowledge of inventory management practices.
  • Ability to educate patients and/or families as to the nature of disease and to provide instruction on proper care and treatment.
  • Interviewing skills.
  • Ability to perform standard clinical procedures according to established protocols.
  • Ability to maintain calendars and schedule appointments.
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
  • Ability to perform routine invasive procedures, such as venipuncture and catheterization, in accordance with established clinical protocol.
  • Understanding of industry-specific policies, such as HIPAA regulations for health care.

Maintain a high level of integrity and confidentiality of patient medical information, team member and employer confidentiality. Comply with all HIPAA regulations.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or graduation equivalency degree (GED).
  • Medical Assistant certificate or currently enrolled in a medical, nursing or pharmacy program or at least 1 year of experience in a medical field.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • CPR Certified preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
  • Work is performed in an interior medical/clinical environment.
  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
  • Will work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training.

TO QUALIFY APPLICANTS MUST PASS:

  • A background check is required.

WORK HOURS AND BENEFITS:

  • 40 hours work week.
