Job Responsibilities/Duties
Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) is the tank farm operating contractor at the Hanford Site located in Richland, WA. The WRPS mission is to safely store, retrieve, and treat 56 million gallons of legacy radioactive and hazardous waste. This complex mission spans all competencies of engineering/science accomplished through a highly integrated organization engineering organization. WRPS was identified as "One of America's Safest Companies" in 2020; and was the recipient of the 2021 "Employer of the Year" by the Association of Washington Businesses.
WRPS is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to be responsible for providing technical engineering services in support of Double-Shell Tank (DST) waste transfer activities for the Tank Operating Contract (TOC) by providing support to operations to resolve off-normal operating conditions (i.e., material balance discrepancies, equipment operability issues, etc.).
Perform the following Mechanical Engineering duties for the Waste Transfer Engineer role as required:
- Act as the point of contact between Operations and Engineering, request and coordinate additional engineering resources when required.
- Collaborate and support other engineers and subject matter experts performing related phases of the technical work. Position requires routine interface with Environmental, Radiological Control, Process Engineering, Operations, and Cognizant System Engineering.
- Maintain the schedule and scope and ensure quality engineering products are available to support the ongoing operations mission.
- Perform a variety of engineering tasks (Facility Modification/Engineering Change Notices, Calculations, Maintenance, Operations & Administrative Procedure changes, Technical & Operability evaluations, maintain Safety Equipment Compliance Database, etc.).
- Maintains a working knowledge of the Tank Farms (TF) Documented Safety Analysis (DSA), Technical Safety Requirements (TSR), and Environmental Permit requirements as they apply to the facility systems.
- Interface with Projects to review designs/modifications to the DST waste transfer system.
The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills and is customer service oriented. May mentor less experienced engineers.
Required Qualifications
Grade 19:
Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineer or related technical discipline; with nine (9) years of experience
Grade 20:
Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineer or related technical discipline; with ten (10) years of experience
Desired Qualifications
Nuclear experience
WRPS Engineering Technical Staff qualification.

Hiring Range Minimum: $111,588
Hiring Range Maximum: $140,663
Grade 20:
Hiring Range Minimum: $122,813
Hiring Range Maximum: $154,838
