The Marketing Manager develops, implements, and evaluates the annual marketing and promotion plans for the Church Street Marketplace (CSM) District and for the Love Burlington brand. The Marketing Manager also provides marketing management for the Early Learning Initiative and other projects from the Business and Workforce Development Team. The annual marketing plan is a significant component of the organization's overall strategic direction developed in collaboration with business owners, the Church Street Marketplace Commission and the City’s overall economic development goals. The Marketing Manager is an ambassador of the CSM and Love Burlington brands and steward of these strategies that build awareness of, reinforce and strengthen the goals of the Church Street Marketplace and the City of Burlington’s Department of Business and Workforce Development.
- Develop, implement and evaluate a marketing and promotion plan to support commercial activity throughout the City of Burlington.
- Manage the CSM and Love Burlington brands by maintaining brand standards and strengthening brand awareness as it relates to the City and Department’s goals.
- Manage Marketing Specialist to effectively communicate the department’s goals and vision.
- Manage marketing and promotion plans for all other departmental efforts, including the Early Learning Initiative, Micro-Business Alliance, workforce.
- Propose, manage and oversee all event and special project advertising and marketing budgets. This includes but is not limited to the winter and summer BTV Market and ONE World Market.
- development projects, business grants and the City’s new business support revolving loan fund.
- Provide insight to director and team on consumer behavior and marketing best practices.
- Work closely with the Project and Events Manager to plan and execute events for Love Burlington and the CSM, including but not limited to the annual Winter Market and the Church Street Holiday event series.
- Leverage available public relations and communications opportunities to further advance the mission, awareness and community outreach for the Church Street Marketplace District and the small businesses City-wide.
- Design and/or work with design partners to create all digital and print material needed for all events, promotions and communications including banners, posters, social media assets and print advertisements.
- Manage all photography and digital assets for both the Church Street Marketplace and Love Burlington, working with partners as needed to keep photography fresh and up to date.
- Lead copywriting for both the CSM brand, Love Burlington brand, and other department projects as needed.
- Oversee all website and social media content to ensure that new and consistent information (article links, stories, and events) is posted regularly on all channels for both the CSM and Love Burlington accounts.
- Build and foster relationships with the local business community to understand their needs and provide the best service possible.
- Build and foster relationships with local and state community organizations with shared missions to strengthen the City’s involvement with the community and support aligned initiatives outside of the City’s scope.
- Build and foster major media promotional relationships with top market venues, including but not limited to local print, radio and TV entities.
- Plan, develop, and implement comprehensive paid media strategies to increase brand visibility and recognition, and drive fan growth and leads via paid Facebook and Instagram campaigns for both the Marketplace and Love Burlington.
- Plan, develop and implement a corporate sponsorship program to fund events and activities for both the Marketplace and Love Burlington.
- Organize and lead all market research including annual customer service survey, annual sales and marketing survey, hospitality survey, annual downtown census
- Work with all CSM businesses and the Marketplace Commission to create a positive, informative guest experience.
- Manage development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, newsletters, brochures, annual report, e-newsletters, social media, and websites for both the CSM and Love Burlington.
- Manage development, distribution, and maintenance of outreach to business community to disseminate information as effectively as possible via email and flyers as needed.
- Manage both business databases for Love Burlington and the CSM ensuring all business information for businesses citywide is accurate.
- Supervise all temporary employees and College interns to fulfill CSM and Love Burlington activities as it relates to marketing, promotion, and community engagement.
- Analyze the effectiveness of marketing and advertising for all programs, including but not limited to events and festivals.
- Maintain and update all media and marketing lists.
- Work with other City departments as needed to consult and provide marketing support on a project specific basis, or for general needs.
- Ability to actively support City diversity, equity, and cultural competency efforts within stated job responsibilities and work effectively across diverse cultures and constituencies.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as evidenced by ongoing trainings and professional development.

- Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing or related degree and three (3) years’ experience in communications, marketing and/or public relations required. Additional experience may be substituted for a degree requirement on a two-for-one year basis.
- Knowledge of business improvement districts and retail sales preferred. Strong understanding of design as it relates to marketing and communication.
- Experience in copy-writing.
- Experience in brand development and management.
- Experience developing and implementing marketing and communication strategies.
- Experience developing and managing marketing and advertisement budgets.
- Ability to manage multiple high-involvement projects simultaneously.
- Ability to represent the Marketplace Department and Marketplace Commission in situations requiring public speaking.
- Ability to collaborate across departments, sectors and throughout the community.
- Ability to build relationships on behalf of a city department and business improvement district.
- Ability to solicit, receive and implement as appropriate feedback from the community.
- Ability to work in a Windows and Macintosh computer environment required.
- Understanding of design programs such as Adobe Creative Suite.
- Understanding of print processes and working with print vendors.
- Understanding of web and e-marketing products.
- Ability to actively support City diversity, equity, and cultural competency efforts within stated job responsibilities and work effectively across diverse cultures and constituencies.
- Regular attendance is necessary and is essential to meeting the expectations of the job functions.
- Ability to understand and comply with City standards, safety rules and personnel policies.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays as required.
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced, pressurized environment. Excellent written and oral skills required.
- Excellent organizational skills required. Ability to work closely with co-workers in a small office, often under pressure.
- Ability to provide guidance to student interns.
- Ability to creatively problem solve.
