The supervisor will supervise and coordinate parts and services requested from the Product Development Lab. Assignment of work to capable work centers with adequate process definition to ensure quality component parts and prototypes are provided in an efficient, timely manner while maintaining a realistic schedule that supports a variety of engineering programs.
What Will You Do?
In order to grow and build a successful career with The Toro Company, you will be responsible for:
Directly supervise Product Development Lab employees involved with the fabrication of parts and assemblies of prototypes.
Operate the Product Development Lab within the union contract and handle grievances according to contract procedures. Work closely with the appropriate Human Resources personnel on all union matters.
Assure that the Product Development Lab is kept in an orderly productive manner. This includes normal housekeeping practices and OSHA requirements are met.
Coordinate maintenance of equipment and facilities.
Coordinate the purchase of raw materials and supplies required for specific parts and day to day operations
Provide liaison support to all engineering projects for component and prototype needs. Interface with engineers / designers on prototype part requests. Provide customer support to requesters. Provide manufacturability feedback to designers / engineers.
Assure that adequate prints and instructions are provided by engineers and designers for prototype machines, parts, or fixtures to be built.
Receive and process requests for parts and services from engineering product groups to determine the best manufacturing processes required and route work accordingly. Review drawings for manufacturability and flow work out to shop leads
Coordinate realistic and achievable due dates with engineering teams to satisfy project needs while maintaining good workflow through the Product Development Lab and not overloading capacity.
Interface with NPD buyers on parts we cannot make either because of technology or due date
Keep track of key metrics for the prototype shop (Turnaround time, on time delivery, # of expedites, etc.)
Collaborate with stake holders on future needs in technology and processes.
Research manufacturing technologies / processes that could help produce prototypes.
Write and implement capital requests (up to $1M) to improve overall shop metrics
Perform other activities as required.
What Do You Need?
To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements:
Minimum 2-year technical degree in an engineering manufacturing related field, plus a minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment with at least two years direct supervisory experience.
Must be able to read and interpret engineering drawings / schematics.
Proven ability to schedule work, estimate time, and meet deadlines.
Proven time management / multitask skill sets.
Knowledge of basic inspection methods and tools.
Familiar with CNC machinery / fabrication equipment, familiar with “g” codes and tooling.
Familiar with Additive manufacturing processes
Microsoft Office/Windows
Experience in a union environment is helpful
Familiar with CAD – CAM systems and applications and can provide assistance where needed.
Knowledge of Creo and Creo View.
Accufab laser cell nesting CAM software for parts production.
Gibbs Cam, machine shop CAM software for parts production.

Competitive Salary – The pay range takes into account skills, experience, education, and location. It is not common to be hired at or near the top of the range; compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
