The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible with meeting the challenges presented in manufacturing as they relate to efficiency, waste, and defect elimination. The main responsibility of the Manufacturing Engineer is to validate the process, ensuring that our manufacturing methods, machines, and facilities are capable of meeting our customers’ requirements in the most efficient &; cost-effective way possible. The Manufacturing Engineer will lead projects that utilize cross-functional teams to address challenges with safety, quality, and efficiency as they pertain to production. Identifying root cause of deficiencies and implementing corrective and preventative actions will also be a significant responsibility of the Manufacturing Engineer.

The Manufacturing Engineer role requires a collaborative leadership style and an ability to work with others. The candidate should be self-motivated, able to work with minimum supervision, possess a skill set that will enable and drive continuous improvement, and have demonstrated leadership that will guide the IPT (Integrated Production Team) in the development of world-class manufacturing systems. This critical, high-profile position is expected to drive a cultural change within the IPT with emphasis on manufacturing excellence by leading the IPT in assessing & determining optimal layout, process controls, automation solutions, efficient material handling & transportation devices, and engineered methods (routings) based on machine cycle time analysis.

The position focuses on overall process management within the IPT and entails active work in the areas of process control and quality assurance to prevent defects for the successful management of the WCM pillars to include, but not limited to the Quality and Process Control and Industrial Efficiency Pillars.

Essential Functions:

Process & Quality Assurance

  • This position is responsible for IPT industrialization through direct participation and commitment to World Class Manufacturing in the areas of safety, cost, quality, and delivery of existing/new products, processes, methods.
  • Responsible for developing & maintaining manufacturing processes
  • Defines, deploys, and monitors operational performance indicators (OPI) to ensure manufacturing processes are under control and operating within specified tolerance limits and offers engineering support that will allow manufacturing to meet established product specifications, quality standards, productivity objectives, lead times, and safety standards.
  • Defines, deploys, records, and monitors key performance indicators (KPI) on IPT area & machine boards, as part of the WCM performance control system (PCS). KPIs include, but not limited to, machine effectiveness [expected output/actual output], labor productivity [earned hours/actual hours], OEE, and material utilization
  • Oversees & assesses IPT operations, including material / product handling, material conveyance systems, automation solutions, optimal layout, manufacturing flow plans, machine process control, and transportation needs.
  • Participates in the planning, devising, designing, and completion of capital and non-capital projects in any technical area of the IPT to improve manufacturing capability, process control, product quality and fixed or variable costs.

Requirements


WCM & Process Control System

  • Responsible for OPIs, as part of the WCM QP&C Pillar, as well as the Time-Based Foundational Aspect for IPT.
  • Effectively supports the IPT in all aspects of World Class Manufacturing, business operational excellence by achieving budgeted savings in manufacturing cost reduction and other business KPI’s through selections of strategic projects, Kaizen events and continuous monitoring.

Environmental, Health & Safety

  • Behavioral role model for all EHS standards, plant rules, and corporate Values and Attitudes.
  • Partners with leaders to continuously improve EHS culture, awareness and accountability systems by leading & participating in EHS inspections, self-assessments, and audits
  • Promotes, develops and mentors behavioral EHS initiatives to drive an autonomous EHS culture and objectively demonstrates commitment through SMAT / EMAT assessments.

Practical/Technical Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated understanding of Six Sigma & Lean Manufacturing concepts
  • Experience with new process implementation in a production environment
  • Ability to translate technical data and reports into proposals and action plans
  • Practical understanding & usage of FMEA, SPC, and GD&T theories & applications
  • Able to draft, design, and build prints for various applications
  • Computer proficiency, including a strong command of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong project management skills with emphasis on the design & development phases on product life-cycle
  • Experience in change management and continuous improvement projects.
  • Independently manage a workload consisting of long-term projects and unplanned day-to-day priorities

Additional Requirements


Education

  • Requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering with 3-5 years of work experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Good understanding of process routings and time study analysis
  • Engineering degree in mechanical, industrial, manufacturing, preferred

Work Experience

  • 3-5 years of work experience in a manufacturing environment, leading process functions in a continuous or batch manufacturing model in an unstructured environment
  • Good understanding of process routings and time study analysis, as well as structured problem solving knowledge & understanding
  • Prior experience leading process optimizations and/or process transformations, preferred

Licenses and Certification

  • Lean/Sigma Green or Black Belt
  • PMP Certification
