Great opportunity for a driven engineer looking to grow in the manufacturing environment – particularly our Wood Fabrication and upcoming Seating department! As a Manufacturing Engineer with Safco Products, you will be a change driver; leading process improvement initiatives that will yield major efficiencies and cost savings for the company. Full exposure to the entire business, working inter-functionally with Quality, Supply Chain, Operations, Safety, etc.

This full-time position reports directly to the Manufacturing Engineering and Quality Manager and is located at Safco Product’s manufacturing plant in Milford, Iowa.


Required Skills


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identifies opportunities and implements changes to improve products and reduce costs using knowledge of processes, tooling and production equipment, quality control standards, product design, materials and parts.
  • Determine root causes of failures using detailed observation and statistical methods, recommend/implement changes in designs, tolerance, or processing methods.
  • Provides technical expertise or support related to manufacturing in our Wood departments.
  • Incorporate new methods and processes to improve existing operations.
  • Troubleshoot new or existing product problems involving designs, materials or processes.
  • Review product designs for manufacturability or completeness.
  • Train production personnel in new or existing methods.
  • Communicate manufacturing capabilities or other information to facilitate production processes.
  • Develop / revise documentation (eg: work instructions & BOMs) for new and existing products.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering and/or related field
  • Must have 5-10 years of related experience working in manufacturing.
  • Strong experience with AutoCAD, Solid Works required.
  • Ability to read and understand blue prints (drawings).
  • Experience in gathering and implementing labor standards.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Must be able to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Must be able to efficiently organize and manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Exhibit high attention to detail and exercise sound judgment in decisions.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Prior work experience in Wood Fabrication or Sewing/Upholstery.
  • Prior work experience with JDE/Oracle in a manufacturing environment.
  • Lean Six Sigma experience.
