The Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI) is looking for an individual interested in our Maintenance Specialist I position.

$19.03/hour PLUS an additional $3.00/hour facility differential for hours worked. Job stability and excellent benefits!

Examples of Work

Maintain and repair a variety of machines and equipment in the facility. Perform alterations to buildings such as layout and frame walls and ceilings, install and finish drywall, install and repair ceramic and vinyl floor coverings. Repair and paint concrete walls. Perform preventative maintenance and repair on electrical appliances, plumbing, fixtures and buildings.

Maintain daily accountability of all tools used in the performance of assigned tasks and by inmates. Knowledge of Globally Harmonized System sheets. Perform skilled electrical work and limited mechanical work in repairing and replacing electrical parts. Inspect and audit work areas for safety hazards. Assist with lawn care and snow removal. Responsible for the supervision of inmate maintenance porters.

Qualifications / Requirements

REQUIREMENTS: Associates degree or equivalent vocational education in construction, industrial engineering, HVAC, welding, or other building trade. Experience in building maintenance, a mechanical trade, or performing safety inspections, investigations or training may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis as determined appropriate by the agency.

OTHER: Must have valid driver's license. Must be able to work an on-call rotation. Must be able to lift 50lbs with assistance. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in the order: a medical exam and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of: standard use, maintenance and safety practices associated with hand tools, power tools and light to heavy machinery; building and mechanical trade methods, practices and procedures; occupational hazards and safety precautions followed in building maintenance operations; computer building control systems and software; plumbing, electrical, heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems; fire codes and fire prevention regulations and procedures. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
