JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: Maintenance Mechanic

DEPARTMENT: Facilities and Maintenance

REPORTS TO: Facilities Manager

POSITION OVERVIEW: Under general supervision, provides mechanical maintenance for winery operation.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs repair, modification and preventative maintenance tasks on buildings, facilities and winery properties

Conducts preventative maintenance inspections and performs required preventative maintenance

Works on assigned projects; responds to urgent maintenance calls.

Maintains equipment, equipment warranties and maintenance records

Perform bottling line changeover and adjustment, preventative maintenance and troubleshooting

Maintains and manages production equipment spare parts inventory

Performs general mechanical work connected with various facilities projects such as welding, electrical, carpentry, plumbing, refrigeration and HVAC

Follows blueprints, drawings and general instructions to plan and layout assignments

Assembles and installs mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment and systems such as production machinery/tools, conveyor systems, storage racks and tanks, facility equipment and the like

Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical equipment and systems requiring the isolation of the malfunction, disassembly of equipment and repair/replacement of bearings, gears, structural components and the like

Performs preventive maintenance on equipment and mechanical systems. May perform non-certified welding, wiring and simple machining operations incidental to repair and maintenance tasks

Uses a wide variety of hand, power, and machine tools safely

Assists with general carpentry and moving of equipment, materials and furniture

Follows shop safety practices and shop housekeeping practices

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or equivalent

Trade school Mechanical Maintenance and Repair degree plus 2 years of experience in a manufacturing/production environment or 4 years of mechanical maintenance experience in a manufacturing/production environment

Requires flexible schedule for rotating shifts and overtime

Required to possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving record

Requires skilled knowledge of electrical, plumbing and carpentry tools, procedures and safety

Ability to read and write and interpret blueprints and assembly drawings and perform basic math

Ability speak, read and write in English, bilingual in Spanish a plus

Ability to work independently as well as in a team

Knowledgeable in OSHA, state and federal safety regulations

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, bend, walk, stoop, crawl, kneel, crouch, twist neck and waist, balance, reach, climb up and down stairs and ladders, and have excellent manual dexterity. The employees must regularly lift/move items up to 10 lbs. and occasionally lift/move up to 50lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance, color, peripheral and depth perception.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles and a variety of industry related chemicals. Because this position works both indoors and outdoors, outside weather conditions are also a factor. The noise level ranges can reach loud depending on what area of the facility is involved.
