Our Maintenance Assistants are responsible for:

Provide a high level of customer service to residents and Team Members by achieving the standards as outlined in the MG Cares program.

  • Perform general maintenance projects as scheduled or assigned, including installations and repairs involving plumbing and electrical equipment, fire and sprinkler equipment, H.V.A.C., landscape, carpentry work, painting, and equipment repair.
  • Must understand and have knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
  • Ensure that walls, floor coverings, doors, windows, furniture, woodwork in the common areas of the community are properly maintained and repaired.
  • Must have basic prep and painting abilities
  • Repair and maintain vacated rooms in a timely manner which includes painting walls and cleaning carpets.
  • Responsible for all in-house plumbing, e.g. sinks, toilets and bathtubs.
  • Responsible for minor electrical work within units and in common areas, e.g. light switches, wall outlets, garbage disposals, etc.
  • Responsible for painting of all apartments and common areas.
  • Repair, clean and maintain all carpet, floor coverings and furniture.
  • Responsible for completing all work orders in a timely manner – noting any other work completed at the location but not listed on work order.
  • Document safety issues as well as physical plan deficiencies related to local, county, state and federal guidelines.
  • Assist MS in preventative maintenance and cleaning of the community vehicles (busses and cars, vans).
  • Assist with training and development of safety procedures and hazard communications.
  • Responsible for any other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor, Regional Maintenance Supervisor or General Manager.
  • Responds immediately and appropriately to all accidents and emergencies, based on established protocol.
  • Other duties as assigned.

If you are someone with:
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • 1-3 years related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of building maintenance, electrical, mechanical, painting, plumbing, floor care, heating and HVAC skills.
  • Prefer knowledge of fire suppression & irrigation systems.
  • Prefer motor vehicle maintenance ability.

The maintenance assistant is responsible for the physical upkeep and maintenance of both the interior and exterior building(s) and surrounding property. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated knowledge of building maintenance, electrical, mechanical , painting, plumbing, and floor care. Merrill Gardens team members adhere to our customer service philosophy by providing excellent customer service to residents and their families and team members.

Experience:

  • Must have 1-3 years related experience or training;or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must be least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to work independently

Must be able to work weekends, the schedule is Friday - Tuesday with Wednesday and Thursdays off. 8:30am-5pm is the typical shift needed.

  • Must have compassion for and desire to work with elderly
  • Must have basic computer skills
  • Must be able to obtain First Aid and CPR certification within 30 days.
  • Must meet standard requirements such as background checks, drug screening, and TB testing
  • Must be able to effectively communicate both in written and spoken English.
  • Must have consistent and punctual attendance for shifts.

The physical demands and work environment described below represent the activities and surroundings of the positions:

  • Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. on a frequent basis and 100 lbs. on an occasional basis, push/pull up to 40 lbs., carry up to 30 lbs. for up to 100 yards, and constantly stand and walk.
  • Must be able to physically able to climb stairs and ladders. Must be able to climb on top of and walk on a roof.
  • Must be able to work within crawl spaces.
  • This job requires occasional stooping, bending, twisting, crouching, kneeling and crawling.
  • Must have the ability to follow through on projects.
  • Must be able to smell as necessary to discern resident's needs and/or building emergencies.
