Burton Mill Solutions is seeking a Machine Shop Supervisor to join our team of dedicated employees in our brand-new, state-of-the-art facility in Ridgefield, WA. Come and grow with us!

In this role, you will be responsible for on-site machine shop productivity and work quality and will provide oversight and monitoring of day-to-day performance of machine shop employees at the assigned location. This position will manage and schedule employees, assign duties, and provide training and direction to machine shop employees to ensure optimum productivity and successful completion of tasks. This position is also responsible for managing machine shop work orders for the site.

How You Will Make a Positive Impact

  • Review and manage production schedules by estimating work hour requirements for completion of job assignments
  • Plan and manage employee work schedules (shifts, shift changes, breaks, overtime, time off, etc.) to meet production and coverage needs
  • Coach, train, direct, assign duties, answer questions, and provide feedback, performance reviews, and communication to direct reports
  • Maintain records related to production, time requirements, and training
  • Interpret specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers
  • Correct unsafe conditions or employee behavior that occurs in area of responsibility
  • Acts as a committed partner in LEAN. Understand, support, and communicate flow model, significance, and impact of LEAN. Demonstrate 5S improvements and 7 waste improvements.
  • Close out work orders, issue materials, order tools as needed, etc.
  • Ensure all Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM) are performed according to schedule
  • Develop and implement training programs for employees
  • Provide instruction as required for machine set ups and instruct operators on part operation
  • Work with employees and programming on part sequencing
  • Work with Planners and Buyers to fix shortages
  • Correct and create shop packet routes
  • Make necessary route/BOM adjustments
  • Assist with steps to recruit, hire, and train direct reports as well as process personnel actions for direct reports
  • Act as a leader and advocate for the company, represent and protect the company’s interests, model the company’s values and ethics and build and maintain a positive work environment.
  • Interpret company policies to workers and enforce safety regulations
  • Demonstrate safe conduct while at work including proper use of PPE and other measures
  • Review workplace for potential hazards and communicate with Safety Committee members
  • Check and respond to email regularly and in a timely fashion to meet the needs of employees as well as internal and external customers

The Value You Bring

  • 5+ years of experience working in a machine shop with management experience in a production environment
  • AA degree or completion of a machinist apprenticeship program preferred but not required
  • Must be highly skilled and knowledgeable regarding production and machining operations, including setup up machines and equipment. CNC experience required.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints, CAD files, and work plans
  • Ability to efficiently utilize various computer systems and applications to complete job functions
  • Ability to accurately apply basic to intermediate math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, etc.)
  • Ability to understand, model, and coach employees on the application of general LEAN concepts, such as 5S and 7 Wastes improvements
  • Ability to apply detailed, clear, and effective verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to speak to individuals as well as small and large groups
  • Must have the ability to influence, demonstrate empathy by actively listening, have a learning mindset and patient demeanor, escalate and de-escalate matters as needed, maintain integrity, and work towards effective resolutions.
  • Must have analytical problem-solving skills and ability to apply critical thinking skills
  • Ability to effectively multi-task, work well under pressure, and adapt to constant and frequent change
