LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE

Position is a Licensed Practical Nurse. Position provides routine licensed practical nursing care and treatment of patients, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse within a state correctional facility. Responsible for providing direct nursing care to patients within the scope of practice to include, but not limited to, the following duties: screening, observing and assessing patients, providing basic wound care and personal care to patients, delivering routine respiratory therapy and other treatments, catheter and colostomy care, collecting vital signs and specimens, preparing and administering medications, administering/interpreting TB skin tests, observing and recording pertinent patient information, responding to emergencies and assisting the Registered Nurse and Physician as required. Individuals may be required to work any shift, weekends and holidays.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

The salary grade for this position is MH07. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

About the NC Dept. of Adult Correction (DAC):
The Department of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare and facility operations staff, as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration, Compliance & Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission and Rehabilitation & Reentry.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL the following:
  • Must be licensed to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in North Carolina or in a participating Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state.
  • If you possess a single state LPN license from a state other than NC, you must apply and receive at minimum a "temporary license" to practice in NC prior to hire date.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Licensed to practice as a Practical Nurse in the state of North Carolina.
