Oversee the operation of the Nativity House Shelter in the absence of the program supervisor. Provides direction to program specialists and volunteers to ensure the comfort and safety of guests and employees. The staff in this position provides supervision, program structure, behavioral management, and a wide range of basic needs services, as well as more advanced social services. This includes helping guests navigate a myriad of social service agencies, forms, and interviews.
Responsibilities:
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESONSIBILITIES
  • Oversees the operation of the Nativity House Shelter in the absence of the program supervisor.
  • Fill in for respite supervisor or other staff as needed throughout the week.
  • Cross-train respite staff how to work as a resident coordinator and the resident coordinator as respite staff.
  • Tracks and orders supply for the respite staff.
  • Participates in interviews and decision making for hiring resident coordinators and respite staff as needed.
  • Supervises respite and resident coordinators in absence of the supervisor.
  • As part of the HAS team, provides behavioral management, intervenes in disruptive behavior including arguments and fights among residents and guests. Helps facilitate the ban decision making process in the absence of the program supervisor.
  • As the team leader, works with staff to welcome new respite guest and ensure all paper work and files are completed by staff.
  • In collaboration with the program supervisor and security program specialist ensures the safety and sanitation procedures are being followed regularly by staff and guests for cleanliness and safety.
  • Communicate incidents, issues, and other relevant information accurately and timely to appropriate staff through recording entries into the computer system, log book, and/or personally through meeting as appropriate.
  • Respite Lead is responsible for finding coverage when there is a call out and program manager is not available.
  • In collaboration with the program supervisor, provides one-on-one counseling, supportive services, and connection with other local services and resources.
  • Assists with facilitating guest transportation to/from medical procedures, as well as picking up medications for guests, when needed.
  • As part of the NH team, intervenes in arguments, fights and other disruptive behavior. Provides behavioral management. Facilitates the ban decision making process in the absence of the program supervisor.
  • Ensures that all reports including Bans and Incident reports are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • In collaboration with the program supervisor, oversees the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) data entry for both the men and women’s shelters. Works with the program director, supervisor, and county HMIS administrator to ensure accurate HMIS data entry.
  • Completes HMIS training, attends HMIS administrator meetings and other HMIS related meetings and training as required.
  • In collaboration with the program supervisor, oversees the collection of surveys and data entry for the Outcome Based Evaluation reporting process on the women’s side.
  • Conduct case reviews, filter paper work, and archive old respite files
  • In collaboration with the program supervisor, ensures that an intake interview occurs with each guest to get an understanding of their history, issues contributing to homelessness, barriers to housing, and their stage of change
  • In collaboration with the program supervisor, provides minor case management and works with supportive services.
  • Works closely with the Mental Health Team to provide coordinated services to guests.
  • Ensure all clients are in-compliance with the respite/hospital program objectives.
  • Coordinate intake process with staff and/or communicate with the hospital to prepare for the arrival of future respite clients.
  • Evaluate clients for approval/denial from the hospital if respite supervisor in unavailable.
  • Facilitate discharge plan from partnered hospital and help client maintain adherence.
  • In collaboration with the program supervisor, maintains computer based and hard copy social service records on all guests. Insures that staff chart in records on a timely basis.
  • Works closely with the Case Managers and Peer Navigators to provide coordinated services to guests.
  • Tracking client records and data monthly.
  • Provide monthly documentation of staff successes and/or concerns for supervisor review.
  • Participates in division wide case staffing twice a month in supervisor absence. Attend Lead meetings and NH/HAS staff meetings.
  • Responsible for being the second witness on narcotic counts with the client present.
  • Fills in for any position as needed.
  • Administrative and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS


  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Must have 2yrs experience working with the homeless population.
  • Proof of negative TB test within the past 12 months.
  • Must obtain Food Handler’s card within first 3 months of employment.
  • Ability to be compassionate, nonjudgmental, and set clear personal boundaries.
  • Ability to set clear limits and consequences and manage triangulation with guests and staff.
  • Ability to take strong initiative and ownership of the position, be proactive in problem solving, and be an effective team communicator.
  • Ability to form and maintain a strong team commitment with staff.
  • Work with diverse population including people with active mental health and chemical dependency issues.
  • Be a positive and proactive team member.
  • Applicant must successfully pass required background checks prior to an offer of employment.
  • Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, automobile insurance and provide current auto registration.
  • Must have an acceptable driving record per CCS’ driving policy, (required to provide current driving abstract).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA in Social Science preferred.
