Position Status: Permanent – Full Time

FLSA Status: Exempt

Location: Pasadena, TX/Remote

Work Schedule: Standard schedule is Monday through Friday.

Purpose: Provide piping and mechanical design, technical analysis and resolution of engineering problems. Successfully complete the design and engineering of industrial projects in Refining and Petro-Chemical facilities, while providing first-class customer service.

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Serve as Lead Subject Matter Expert on pipe stress and pipe support design, including ASME and other relevant codes and practices
  • Establish design criteria, prepare procurement specifications, evaluate bids, and manage contracts for various types of piping systems along with any other specified equipment.
  • Evaluate piping and pipe support systems including material selection, B31.1/B31.3/ASME Section I and Section VIII Code calculations, stress analysis, etc. is required.
  • Evaluate systems incorporating pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, tanks, piping, into the overall facility design.
  • Participation in design reviews.
  • Verification of client specifications and requirements.
  • Contribute technical data to associated lists (line list, specialty item list, etc.)
  • Prepares engineering calculations following standard methods and principles used in established engineering analysis.
  • Works with client to resolve problems.
  • Provide manhour estimates for assigned responsibilities within piping and mechanical as needed.
  • Assist in the development of departmental procedures.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to the Associate Engineers in the department.
  • Work in a fast paced, multi-project environment and meet conflicting project schedules.
  • Work within company policy as outlined in the H+M Employee Handbook as well as the H+M Safety Manual and OSHA Safety rules.
  • Identify level of analysis needed for any piping system through review project scope and associated project information.
  • Communicate with project stakeholders to help develop project timeline, budget, and resources.
  • Perform piping flexibility analysis and computational pipe stress analysis on various piping systems.
  • Mark-up piping diagrams and isometrics, providing feedback to piping designers.
  • Review and approve final design documents for piping systems, including isometrics, shop drawings, material submittals, and pipe support designs.
  • Development and maintenance of a stress isometric tracker for monitoring progress of each system or line requiring stress analysis.
  • Ensure every design maintains the highest level of quality, and pipe stress analysis results and requirements are incorporated.
  • Responsible for completing project specific objectives on schedule and on budget

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • 8+ years of formal training and experience in heavy industrial design and engineering, EPC experience preferred.
  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited engineering school.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer preferred, with ability to acquire registration in various states.
  • Expert knowledge of Caesar II pipe stress analysis software.
  • Proven experience with NozzlePro to determine allowable nozzle loads.
  • Proficient with using Bluebeam, Navisworks & AutoCAD.
  • Design and specify piping specialty items (steam traps, hoses, strainers, etc.).
  • Ability to accurately estimate all piping engineering tasks on a project.
  • Possess an advanced knowledge of mechanical engineering, piping system design and be familiar with applicable codes, standards, and acceptable industry practices.
  • Must have excellent communication skills and be capable of interacting with other engineering disciplines, construction project managers, and clients.
  • Fully proficient in project execution and mechanical engineering work processes from FEED and detailed design through materials management, construction and pre-commissioning.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and capable of establishing respect and credibility through actions, communications, understanding and personal presence.
  • Ability to lead a small team to deliver on commitments
  • Ability to work with others to achieve job goals

Environment: Working conditions encountered in this job include those found in a typical office setting as well as an indoor/outdoor manufacturing setting which includes exposure to outside weather conditions, work at elevated heights, climbing of stairs and ladders, and physical manipulation of tools and mechanical equipment. This job demands the use of typical manufacturing personal protective equipment as well as advanced protective equipment as needed.
