Laboratory Manager
Job description
Note: This site requires that the incumbent has lived in the US for three out of the past five years.
Responsibilities:
- Perform advanced laboratory procedures to include processing and cryopreservation of biological specimens in accordance with established procedures.
- Assist with maintaining the specimen repository. Conduct specimen inventory and reconciles discrepancies. Maintain accuracy of specimen inventory database.
- Fulfill requests for the transfer and shipment of biological specimens in accordance with IATA and DOT (49 CFR) regulations.
- Monitor, track and record freezer and liquid nitrogen cryovat temperatures IAW Temperature Sensitive Medical Products and institutional policies. Respond to equipment alarm notifications and take appropriate action to ensure specimen integrity.
- Assist in the preparation of laboratory manuals, reports, and data summaries as well as planning of laboratory procedures.
- Perform preventive maintenance, calibration and quality control of laboratory instruments and equipment. Annual updates of chemical inventory to include most current Safety Data Sheets.
- Supervision and training of lab personnel to include procedures of safety and quality control protocols
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for the role.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of a wide variety of laboratory techniques including specimen processing and safety procedures.
- A good understanding of CLIA, GLP, and IATA requirements.
- Should have a minimum of 6 years of laboratory/biorepository experience.
- Should have technical knowledge of scientific disciplines.
- Has written standard operating procedures or laboratory protocols necessary for accreditation.
- Developed and maintained research studies involving testing in the laboratory.
- Has some knowledge in research testing validation.
- Skills in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, graphic, email, database software, and specimen inventory software.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Effective multitasking.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Assigned Lead: May recommend the following: employee hiring, disciplinary action, and starting salaries. Provide input on employee performance evaluations.
- Ability to stand or sit at a computer for a prolonged period
Qualifications:
- This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree required; Masters's Degree preferred.
- Minimum of 6-8 years experience required.
- 7 years of experience or more in research administration can be considered.
Licenses and Certifications:
- MT (ASCP) certification preferred.
