ESSENTIAL TASKS:
- PERFORM A VARIETY OF DUTIES TO GENERATE HIGH QUALITY TESTING DATA FOR CERTIFICATION. THESE DUTIES MAY INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO SAMPLE PREPARATION, FOLLOWING STRICT WRITTEN PROCEDURES, TESTING, VALIDATING AND REPORTING OF TEST RESULTS AND RECORDING DATA INTO THE LABORATORY INFORMATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (LIMS).
SKILL POINTS ARE BASED ON PROFICIENCY AND ATI SM QUALIFICATION IN:
CHEMISTRY
CHEMISTRY PREPARATION; ATOMIC ABSORPTION (FURNACE AND FLAME); INDUCTIVELY COUPLED PLASMA; XRF SPECTROMETRY; CARBON AND SULFUR COMBUSTION; OXYGEN; NITROGEN AND HYDROGEN DETERMINATIONS, OPTICAL EMISSION SPECTROMETRY
MECHANICAL
HEAT TREAT SAMPLES; ROOM AND ELEVATED TEMPERATURE TENSILES; RAPID STRAIN RATE TENSILES; SHEAR, BLEND, AND FLATTENING TESTS; STRESS RUPTURE; HARDNESS; CHARPY IMPACT TESTS.
METALLOGRAPHY
METALLOGRAPHY PREPARATION (INCLUDING MOUNTING, POLISHING, AND ETCHING SAMPLES); USE LABORATORY MICROSCOPE TO EVALUATE GRAIN STRUCTURE AS TO SIZE, UNIFORMITY, INCLUSIONS AND OTHER SPECIFIED FACTORS; HARDNESS; MICRO AND MACRO PHOTOGRAPHS; AUTOMATED IMAGE ANALYSIS.
SAMPLE SAWING & MACHINING
OPERATE ABRASIVE SAWS TO CUT A VARIETY OF TEST SAMPLES ACCORDING TO DRAWINGS AND STANDARD PLANS; SET-UP AND OPERATE LATHE, CYLINDRICAL AND SURFACE GRINDERS, MILLING MACHINE, BROADER, DRILL PRESS AND OTHER MACHINE TOOLS
NON-ESSENTIAL TASKS:
- ASSIST IN ROUTINE LABORATORY OPERATIONS AND/OR PERFORM OTHER ROUTINE LABORATORY WORK AS DIRECTED. PERFORM NORMAL MECHANICAL SERVICING AND MINOR REPAIRS OF TESTING EQUIPMENT. MAINTAIN WORK AREAS IN A CLEAN, SAFE AND ORDERLY CONDITION.
