The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of New York City’s children and families by providing child welfare, juvenile justice, and early care services. In child welfare, ACS contracts with private nonprofit organizations to support and stabilize families at risk of a crisis through preventive services and provides foster care services for children not able to safely remain at home. Each year, the agency’s Division of Child Protection responds to more than 50,000 reports of suspected child abuse or neglect. In juvenile justice, ACS manages and funds services including detention and placement, intensive community-based alternatives for youth, and support services for families. ACS is also a key part of NYCs early childhood and education continuum, providing child care assistance to thousands of child welfare involved and low-income children so they can access safe, affordable, quality care.

This office is seeking an outstanding candidate to serve as an Investigator that will be responsible for reviewing workers’ compensation claims from a subset of critical ACS employees to identify and prevent the filing of fraudulent worker’s compensation claims.

This office is seeking an outstanding candidate to serve as an Investigator that will be responsible for reviewing workers’ compensation claims from a subset of critical ACS employees to identify and prevent the filing of fraudulent worker’s compensation claims.
Reporting to an Assistant Commissioner of Internal and External Audits, with latitude for independent action and decision, the Investigator will be responsible for:
- Conduct confidential and complex inquiries into concerns regarding fraudulent claims that arise based on data mining, anonymous sources, and other match reports.
- Interview personnel to verify document and records and gather evidence to identify potentially fraudulent activity.
- Conduct collateral interviews with employers, landlords, and other witnesses to secure information.
- Interact with other investigatory agencies at Federal, State, and local levels as part of the information gathering process and possible referrals, as well as with
- Access numerous resources to conduct research and obtain vital information relevant to the inquiry.
- Write detailed case notes and annotated reports summarizing chronological events and developments and providing the results of the investigation.
- Perform fieldwork activity including interviews, undercover operations, and surveillance.
- Meet with leadership to discuss activities, concerns and findings.
- Complete special projects related to accountability and audit functions, when necessary.
Minimum Qual Requirements
1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State’s Department of Education or a recognized accrediting agency, and four years of satisfactory full-time experience in one or more of the fields of accounting, auditing, correction administration, criminal justice administration and planning, forensic science, inspection, investigation, law enforcement, personnel administration, police science, and security, or in a major operational area of the Administration for Children’s Services; or
2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college; or
3. Education and/or experience equivalent to “1” or “2” above.

Preferred Skills
- Ability to handle confidential matters
- Experience in public benefits fraud, and/or gaming fraud
- Conducting investigations to identify or gather evidence of criminal activity or fraud
- Verifying or evaluating qualifications of persons for employment or licensure
- Evaluating credit histories; or searching for assets; and/or researching, compiling and/or locating evidence/information in order to build a case or uncover activities of a criminal,
- Detail oriented and ability to multitask.
Additional Information
*THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE OFFERED A SALARY BETWEEN $70,000-$75,000*
