POSITION: Instructional Coach

REPORTS TO: Principal & Executive Director of Elementary Education

SALARY GRADE: Salary commensurate with degree, certification, and experience


NATURE OF WORK (Instructional Coach): Responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing a comprehensive school-wide instructional program which facilitates learning; modeling of best practices lessons which use effective learning strategies; coaching teachers in all curriculum areas on how to enhance students’ acquisition of knowledge; identifying and facilitating professional development needs of the school and providing professional development related to instructional design and delivery as part of the problem solving process; and working with school and community groups, such as the Leadership Team, and Professional Learning Communities, to help all students reach their highest potential.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Instructional Coaching

  • Support teachers in creating an environment conducive to effective instruction
  • Observe and provide feedback to teachers on effective instructional design, instructional delivery, and content area knowledge.

Coordinate Professional Learning Communities

  • Engage staff in evidence based collaborative dialogue to improve instruction.
  • Coordinate systematic examination of a wide range of data.
  • Assist staff in using evidence to develop a plan to improve instruction, monitor progress, and adjust the plan as needed.
  • Facilitate school based instructional rounds, creation of common assessments, and revision of curriculum documents.

Professional Development

  • Provides staff development based on the needs of the school including but not limited to instructional rounds, professional learning communities, instructional design, and instructional delivery.
  • Provides information based on current best practices as documented by research.
  • Models current based practices in meetings and classrooms.

Lead Effective Instructional Program

  • Serve on the school leadership team, coordinate instructional program implementation, and engage in improvement planning cycles.
  • Work with feeder pattern staff to assure articulation from elementary to middle and middle to high school.
  • Attend scheduled State, District and school level meetings and parent conferences as/if required.
  • Assist in monitoring instructional design, delivery, and programs including those mandated by the legislature and the School Board.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Other Duties

  • Must be familiar with tiered, strategic, and explicit instruction.
  • Progress monitor and analyze student data on an ongoing basis
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the available core programs and resources that the district supports and supplements with district selected intervention resources
  • Provide school and program information to teachers, students and their parents
  • Provide appropriate instructional and support services
  • Prepare, maintain, and complete required work logs, schedules, forms, and reports
  • Participate in assigned staff development activities to improve job skills
  • Performs related duties as assigned by the Principal, or his/her designee, and Director
  • Participate in applicable Professional Learning Community and Multi-tiered Systems of Support meetings
  • Collaborate with the School Administrative and/or Leadership teams to identify and address gaps, monitor progress, and provide an update of results
  • Collaborate with the district’s curriculum and instruction team to address evidence-based reading and math practices and monitor progress
  • Attend district and regional meetings and conferences as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


Language Skills
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.

Reasoning Ability - Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Computer Skills - Familiarity of basic computer operation and software. Ability to learn various computer operations required for management of student information and integration of technology in classroom instruction.

Other - Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on the division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication. The candidate should have experiences that enable them to provide effective professional development for teachers in their schools.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk and use fingers, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. Specific visual abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Occasionally the employee will lift up to 50 lbs. such as to lift files, paper, school supplies, books, etc.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee continuously interacts with the public and staff.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A Master's Degree in Education is preferred but not required.
  • The candidate must have five years of classroom teaching experience.
  • Experience or training in mentoring, staff development, and leadership are preferred.

EVALUATION:

Performance in this position will be evaluated regularly by the supervisor in accordance with Board Policy.
