Primary Functions:
Ensure that customers both internal and external receive the quality bus that they expect by inspecting the bus and reporting any necessary repairs/corrections prior to shipment.
Master – (additional Functions)
- This position involves two (2) primary areas that include chassis and vendor items for Collins Bus Corporation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- Close attention to detail.
- Function with a minimal amount of supervision or no supervision.
- Set work priorities to meet production goals as scheduled per assigned department.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those in contact on a day to day basis.
- Meet minimum standards of safety per assigned department.
- Meet minimum standards of housekeeping per assigned department.
- Knowledge of basic 12-volt electricity.
- Update production tracking board.
- Must be able to drive and road test vehicle.
- Responsible for reporting deficiency in design and suggestion of improvements in design and assembly technique.
- Responsible for water testing, fixing leaks, and weighing of Collins Buses.
- Responsible for road and function testing of Collins Buses.
- Responsible for final sign-off and final inspection of Collins Buses.
- Responsible for inspection and function testing of all buses received.
- Responsible for verifying options to orders.
- Responsible for completing a release receipt.
- Be compliant with all the rules of conduct and attendance per the company handbook.
- Other duties and responsibilities as required.
- Ensure that hazardous waste that is handled is placed into the proper container(s).
- Maintains all satellite and storage containers in a closed position unless adding or removing waste.
- Familiar with Hazardous Waste Contingency Plan.
- Knows spill response procedures and evacuation routes.
- Computer entry of defects and errors.
- Printing of computer-generated reports (i.e. PATI’s, error reporting, hospital reports).
- Notify supervisor/lead if not on schedule.
- Follow departmental work instructions.
- Notify supervisor/lead if encountering maintenance issues.
A – (additional responsibilities)
- Responsible for reporting of warrantable items on units through detail.
- Ability to train new inspectors.
- Fill in for lead when absent.
Master – (additional responsibilities)
- Keep daily records on scheduling
- Responsible for receiving and filing the proper reports for all chassis received.
- Responsible for inspection and function testing of all chassis received.
- Responsible for reporting and follow up repair of warrantable items on uncut chassis.
- Responsible for placement of chassis in the yard.
- Responsible for verifying options to orders and delivery of chassis to the start of the production line each morning or as needed.
- Responsible for inspection of materials received in house for manufacture of parts.
- Responsible for inspection of outside vendor items for manufacture of commercial and school buses.
Qualifications/Training:
Ability to read, write, comprehend, and verbally communicate simple instructions.- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, assembly drawing, schematics and other written or verbal instructions presented in English.
- Ability to read English and Metric tape measures and use measuring devices.
- Ability to perform all operations within acceptable quality and time standards.
- Ability to recognize quality expected and be able to reproduce it.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
- Must possess good mechanical ability and component operation functions.
- Must understand drive trains and power unit operation and be able to troubleshoot.
- Must have previous bus/truck assembly experience to qualify as a QC Technician “A”.
- Valid Driver’s License and have a current CDL.
- Must maintain a positive rating as described in the training/qualification evaluation record as a Quality Inspector Master, “A”, or “B”.
- Must have general knowledge of OSHA and EPA standards.
- Be trained in Hazardous Materials Handling Operations with an annual refresher course.
- Training will include familiarization with roles as outlined in Hazardous Waste Contingency Plan.
- Use functional gauging assigned for inspection of buses.
- Problem solving abilities.

Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 40#’s without assistance.- Ability to work from various squatting, kneeling or bending positions.
- Ability to work with arms above head.
- Ability to work from ladders or scaffolding.
- Ability to stand at a workstation for ten hours a day (minus specified breaks).
- Ability to safely use specified hand, air, power tools, and machinery.
- Ability to operate and understand the operation of all protective safety equipment in the area.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision and depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Hand-Eye coordination.
- Ability to work in noisy and dusty conditions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
Experience:
Electrical Inspector must have previous electrical experience.- Assembly hand tools.
- Customer service experience.
- Detail Oriented.
A – (additional experience)
- Two (2) year minimum experience as QC Inspector “B” or quality inspection within similar industry.
Master – (additional experience)
- Two (2) year minimum experience as QC Inspector “A” or quality inspection within similar industry.
Personal Protective Equipment Recommended and/or Required:
Safety glasses.
- Earplugs.
- Safety harness.
