The infection preventionist for the Healthcare Associated Infections and Antimicrobial Resistance (HAI/AR) program to provide infection prevention and control education and response to healthcare facilities in long term care (LTC), assisted living (AL), dialysis facilities, acute care, dental facilities, outpatient facilities, and congregate care settings in Indiana. Infection prevention guidance shall include; rapid assessment for COVID -19 and new novel pathogens for infection control and cohorting as needed to prevent further spread.
Job Responsibilities:
- Conducts onsite infection control program assessments in congregate care settings; including long-term care facilities, assisted living, memory care, acute care, outpatient, dental, dialysis and other congregate facilities as directed
- Provide recommendations for training and technical assistance based on opportunities for improvement identified during onsite assessments
- Conduct and perform infection control assessments during outbreak and cluster situations within facilities by reaching out to DONs, ADON, Administrators and Infection Preventionists (IP) in these affected facilities.
- Identify gaps in infection control practices and procedures
- Disseminate results of infection control assessments and enter data into redcap and update shared team Master files of all IP activities weekly
- Follow up with facilities after assessments to ensure recommendations are implemented within 30 days of onsite Outbreak Response Assessment (ORT) or ICAR
- Provides education to healthcare facilities regarding infection prevention and control and LHD as requested
- Serves as the subject matter expert for general infection prevention and control practices
- Assist the HAI-AR team in conducting facility assessments in high-acuity post-acute facilities for the containment of COVID 19 and other pathogens of concern.
- Partner with the Regulatory Division to provide infection control guidance as directed by following up with facilities after their after-action plans are in place to educate further as needed
- Share links to guidelines and on-line resources that can be used to mitigate identified gaps
- Perform other duties as required to support HAI prevention in these LTC, AL, and congregate settings
- Actively participate in statewide leadership meetings, conferences, and provide presentations as requested for local and state APIC Chapter meetings. i. e. Project First line.
Job Requirements:
- Hold an academic degree appropriate to the scope of work, BSN, MSN, MPH, or MS. Minimum of three years clinical and infection control experience in a healthcare setting preferred
- Certified in infection control (CICĀ®) or Certified in LTC (LTC-CIP) by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. (CBIC) preferred
- BSN with ability to maintain RN licensure preferred (if candidate is an RN)
- Have successfully participated in hospital-based IPC programs and/or research to reduce HAIs in targeted settings (dialysis, long-term care, outpatient, long-term acute care hospitals and acute care)
- Ability to think critically about public health problems and develop collaborative solutions
- Broad knowledge of principles and practices of public health infectious diseases, especially those applicable to the identification and control of infectious diseases
- Broad knowledge of Infection Prevention in health care settings
- Ability to communicate (verbal and written) effectively with both internal and external public health partners, and facility directors and administrators
- Advanced organizational and teamwork skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks efficiently
- Ability to work independently and use strong judgements based on existing knowledge
- Broad knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations, and policies relating to communicable diseases
- Advanced ability to provide technical assistance to medical practitioners, LTC and AL staff, public health officials, agency staff, businesses, and lay individuals
- Ability to coordinate and maintain effective working relationships with various internal and external customers and stakeholders
- Willingness to travel within Indiana, as needed.
