ABOUT THE JOB
The Maintenance Mechanic repairs, maintains and performs preventive/predictive maintenance on plant equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Confers with operators and observes, tests and evaluates operation of machinery and equipment to diagnose cause of malfunction
- Repairs, replaces, adjusts and aligns components of machinery and equipment
- Fabricates replacement parts
- Test-runs repaired machinery and equipment to verify adequacy of repairs
- Cleans and lubricates parts, equipment and machinery
- Examines parts for defects, such as breakage or excessive wear
- Welds to repair broken metal parts, fabricate new parts and assemble new equipment
- Records repairs and maintenance performed
- Maintains inventory and disposal
- Performances preventative maintenance duties

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Must be able to learn how to operate a variety of coating & lining machines and equipment
- Capable of following all safety requirements, work rules and regulations
- Ability to comprehend and follow instructions
- Ability to read gauges and watch guides
- Ability to obtain and maintain forklift certification if required.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Ability to read and/or interpret mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic blueprints or schematics
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals

- Stooping: Positions self to troubleshooting and chasing wires down on machinery. (This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.)
- Kneeling/Crouching: Position self-troubleshooting and chasing wires down on machinery while performing the job.
- Crawling: Moving about to position occasional for mobile equipment inspections.
- Reaching: Grabbing things from a distance above or from the side.
- Standing/Sit: Remaining upright in a stationary position, particularly for sustained periods.
- Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward downward or outward.
- Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
- Lifting: raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position, (This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.)
- Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with whole hand during repair or assay of some parts of machinery.
- Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm used during assay or repair on most equipment.
- Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers such as typing. Used during assay or repair of most equipment.
Physical Requirements
Very heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Visual Acuity
The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures transcribing viewing a computer terminal extensive reading visual inspection involving small defects small parts and/or operation of machines (including inspection) using measurement devices and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.
Vision Requirements
Over 2/3 of the time:
- The worker is required to have color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors)
- The worker is required to have peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point)
- The worker is required to have depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships)
Up to 2/3 of time:
- The worker is required to have the ability to adjust visual focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus)
Less than 1/3 of the time:
- The worker is required to have close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less)
- The worker is required to have distance vision (clear vison at 20 feet or more)
- The worker will not require having any special vision.
