The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintenance repairs and preventive maintenance of the electrical and mechanical equipment in the plant. The Maintenance Technician reports to the Maintenance Supervisor.
Duties and Areas of Responsibility
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical problems
- Submit written reports of work activities to the Maintenance Supervisor
- Submit written request for repair parts to the Maintenance Supervisor
- Act promptly on requests submitted by Maintenance Supervisor
- Perform preventive maintenance
- Startup equipment before production begins, i.e., water pumps, splice iron, winder, hot glue system, stacker, auto-bagger and oven, etc.
- Metal fabrication (cutting, welding, lathe work, milling machine, etc.)
- Install new equipment, conduit, pipe, wiring, structural steel, etc., as needed
- Repair forklifts and other rolling equipment
- Access PLC programs and calibrate as needed
- Assist production when needed
- Implement approved suggestions that require maintenance assistance
- Maintain plant heaters, air conditioners, lights, buildings, etc.
- Install and maintain cables for computer and telephone systems
- Inspect plant sprinkler system
- Keep area clean and orderly
- Serve on action teams and committees, as needed
- Comply with all safety regulations and policies (safety glasses, welding hoods, cutting goggles, respirators, lock out tag out procedures, hot work permits, etc.)
Necessary Skills and Attributes
- Ability to use electrical schematics in trouble-shooting machine problems
- Ability to use volt-ohm meter proficiently
- Experienced in electrical construction; i.e., running conduit, pulling wire and
- hooking up equipment
- Knowledgeable in cutting and welding
- Troubleshoot pneumatic and hydraulic problems
- Knowledgeable in general mechanical repairs
- Must be a certified forklift operator
- Knowledgeable of machine shop equipment and use
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Solid communication skills – verbal and written record-keeping
- Good organization and problem-resolution skills
Physical Requirements
- Must meet physical requirements to work in confined spaces as required by OSHA
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
- Must have visual acuity to inspect equipment, read documentation, utilize tools, etc.
- Must meet physical requirements to safely operate a forklift as required by OSHA
- Must be able to climb ladders and stairs
- Must be able to work in a stooping, bending and squatting position
- Must have the ability to work in plant/warehouse environment (including high/low temperatures, dust, humidity, etc.)
- Must have the ability to wear and use a respirator
