Mighty Writers is a nonprofit that teaches kids ages 2 to 17, to think and write with clarity. Our free writing programs in Philadelphia, PA; Chester County, PA and Camden, NJ have grown to serve over 3,500 kids a year. Position Description

The Individual Giving Manager will serve as a key member of the development team. In collaboration with the team and the Director of Development this position will develop engagement strategies and goals for individual donors, emphasizing major donors.

The Individual Giving Manager’s responsibilities will be fundraising: individual giving, and database management. This position will be accountable to the Development Director regarding activities related to increasing Mighty Writers’ funding opportunities. This position will be responsible for assisting the Development team achieve fundraising goals and engaging donors in ongoing activities. This includes leveraging key relationships and contacts within and outside of the Mighty Writers network to ensure revenue goals are met.

The ideal candidate will be entrepreneurial: able to build and maintain relationships with individual donors; be accountable and take ownership of development processes and results. They will work well with diverse constituencies and will have a good rapport with people of all ages and backgrounds. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, work well under pressure and be able to handle several projects at one time. They will have good judgment and an eye for detail; as well as the ability to see the big picture.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the prospect pipeline and moves management program
  • Maintain a portfolio of donors and serve as manager for approximately 50 individuals in the $1,000 and up range
  • Engage with donors through written correspondence, telephone contact, personal face-to-face contact, email and other mailings
  • Prepare written materials, including reports and proposals for individual supporters
  • Develop and operationalize the stewardship plan for major donors, including preparing notes for the Executive Director's discussions with donors
  • Create events to advance donor engagement and manage or facilitate smaller cultivation events as needed
  • Independently manage smaller campaigns for specific programs
  • Oversee the monthly donor program, including growth and segmented communications strategies
  • Monitor performance around retention, increased support and outreach to current donors and prospects
  • Prepare annual revenue and expense projections for individual giving campaigns; review and assess projections on a regular basis
  • Oversee tracking of donor engagement
  • Perform other department or related duties or special projects as directed by the Director of Development

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND CAPABILITIES

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in donor engagement and solicitations,
  • Demonstrated experience in working within a team.
  • Experience working with donor management databases.
  • Knowledge and facility of best practices for donor cultivation and retention
  • Proven abilities to solicit gifts over $10,000.
  • Advanced computer skills (in particular, developing Word forms/templates, Adobe Acrobat forms, and manipulating data in Excel); willingness to learn additional applications (and accessible technology) as necessary.
  • High level of attention to detail and strong organizational skills and at the same time, ability to think broadly and analyze trends.
  • Highly motivated self-starter, with ability to work successfully in a virtual team environment.
  • Excellent research, writing, and editing skills, with attention to detail required.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical, budgetary, and grants administration details to staff, donors, grantees, and Board members.
  • Ability to design and implement effective workflow processes and procedures.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and follow through to effectively manage work and meet multiple deadlines.
