Job Title: HVAC Maintenance Technician
Company/Location: Kilwin’s Quality Confections, Inc., Petoskey, MI
Department: Facilities & Maintenance Shift: 1st Shift and/or 2nd Shift
Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor FLSA Status: Hourly/ Non-Exempt
Pay Range: $26-$32/Hour Depending on Experience

JOB SUMMARY:
This position will assist in keeping the HVAC machinery, mechanical equipment, and facilities in good repair and in safe working operation. Duties will include preventative maintenance and repairing HVAC equipment; installing, aligning, and balancing new equipment; and general repair of buildings and equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Provide integrity, honesty and knowledge that promotes the culture, values, and mission of Kilwins.
• Diagnose HVAC system issues and troubleshoot equipment to identify faults and determine necessary repairs or replacements.
• Repair and maintain HVAC units. Work with production and the retail store to achieve minimum impact with loss of time. This role will also include air handling equipment, compressors, evaporators, walk-in coolers and freezers.
• Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.
• Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
• Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts.
• Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts, using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
• Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
• Must be able to read and document electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic prints.
• Must be able to upgrade both old and new equipment and document these changes for future review.
• Must have multi-faceted trouble shooting skills and be able to elaborate on this on your interview.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a certified HVAC program or apprenticeship is strongly preferred.
• Proven experience as an HVAC Technician or similar role, with a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience.
• Extensive knowledge of heating, cooling, and ventilation systems, including various equipment brands and models.
• Proficient in diagnosing and repairing HVAC system issues, such as electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration problems.
• Strong understanding of HVAC controls and wiring diagrams.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Solid customer service and communication skills.
• EPA 608 Certification for handling refrigerants is preferred.
• Commitment to safety protocols and knowledge of OSHA guidelines.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Prolonged periods of standing and walking
• Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery.
• Must be able to visually inspect machines including on a ladder/lift.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Push a minimum 100 pounds (power cleaning appliances).

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

• Extreme heat or cold
• Noise level which may, at times, require normal hearing protection in the form of ear plugs.
