Schweiger Dermatology Group, a leader in the field of dermatology practice with multiple locations throughout New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania is searching for an experienced per diem histotechnician I to join our Pathology Lab in New York, NY.

Job Summary: Histotechnicians are responsible for preparing tissue specimens for pathological examination; helping maintain laboratory equipment; training in the use of new laboratory equipment; performing routine histology procedures; preparing solutions required for any histological examination; plus all related job duties as assigned. Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Summary of Essential Histology/Dermatology Job Functions:

• Prepares histologic slides from tissue sections for microscopic examination and diagnosis by Pathologist.
• Operates computerized laboratory equipment to fix, dehydrate, and infiltrate with wax, tissue specimens to be preserved for study by Pathologist.
• Prepares slides of specimens, using specified stain, to enhance visibility under microscope.
• Prepares and maintains all necessary reagents, including stains, alcohols, and paraffin's according to proper specifications.
• Examines slides under microscope to ensure tissue preparation meets laboratory requirements.
• May study slides under microscope to detect deviations from norm and report abnormalities for further study.
• Processes specimen accessioning to include all manual and computerized data entry.
• Maintains laboratory, equipment, and accurate records of quality assurance control;
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Certification/Licensure, and/or Experience:

• Associates Science degree, BS degree, or related discipline in Histology required.
• Required One year experience in Histology laboratory preferred, new graduates will be considered as well.

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability:

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work in stressful situations.
• Ability to work safely with infectious material and/or hazardous material.

Salary - $30-$55/hr
