JOB TITLE: Histology Technician
Reports to: Practice Administrator
Location: Orland Park, IL
Schedule: 30 hours per week with the potential to ramp up to 40
Responsibilities:
- Opens laboratory for daily operation, checks temperatures, all equipment, machines and document.
- Receives tissue specimens and enters into log book.
- Process tissue for sectioning.
- Section tissue; stain slides, coverslip and label slides.
- Performs Mohs micrographic frozen tissue slide preparation.
- Log in all incoming consultation slides and prepares slides for surgeon.
- Log in all Pathology reports, accession and pull charts for surgeon review.
- File slides and blocks.
- Maintain order in laboratory and compliance to safety regulations.
- Order laboratory supplies and appropriately stores supplies.
- Appropriately dispose of biohazardous waste.
- Any additional duties as determined and assigned by either the laboratory supervisor or medical director
Qualifications:
- Associates or Bachelor’s degree of Science
- 1+ years of healthcare practice experience preferred.
- A high degree of organization and responsiveness.
- Effective communication and relationship building with vendors and staff providing excellent customer service to all stakeholders.
