Within the division of Student Affairs, Student Development offers opportunities for students to create a sense of community at UNCSA and to provide opportunities that support the development of the whole person. The Student Development Team consists of Residential Education, Student Engagement, Student Assistance and Support, Fitness Center and High School Life.

Primary Description of Work
The High School Coordinator for Belonging and Leadership will work with the High School life team to develop and implement a range of programs designed to cultivate sense of belonging for high school students at UNCSA. This position will collaboratively lead activities that foster mutual understanding with and among under-served communities (such as, but not limited, to: Latinx, Black/African American, LGBTQ+ and International Students, etc. The Coordinator will also design and implement leadership programs with the intent of growing high school student engagement in leadership development.

Work Schedule and hours
Monday – Friday 8 am – 5 pm with occasional evenings/nights/weekends.

Description of Responsibilities and Duties
Student Belonging Programs:
  • Assist with the co-creation, implementation and assessment of programs, initiatives, spaces and resources that build a vibrant culture of belonging for the UNCSA high school student population that advance the mission of the institution as it relates to equity, diversity, inclusivity and belonging.
  • In collaboration with relevant university partners, participate the planning and execution a robust calendar of educational programs for high school students aimed at building culture of belonging.
  • Co-create, implement and assess structures aimed at increasing participation of students from minoritized backgrounds and student groups.
  • Provide expertise for the effective integration of learning objectives in co-curricular initiatives that are culturally responsive and impact high school student engagement and belonging.
  • Measure and monitor the impact of programming for high school student belonging efforts.
  • Provide periodic reports outlining the progress, barriers, and proposed improvements in implementing programs that foster a sense of belonging for all high school students.
Student Leadership Programs:
  • Coordinate programs supporting high school student leadership development.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, College Student Personnel, Student Affairs or other related area, Master’s Degree preferred.
  • At least two-five years of experience working with students 9-12 grade
  • At least two-five years of leading diversity, equity inclusion and belonging programs with high school student populations.
  • At least one year of experience interacting with students from diverse backgrounds

  • Student support experience including managing high school student leadership programs, student organizations and advising.
  • Experience in working with diverse communities, including international students, students of color, disabled students, LGBTQ+ students, etc.
  • Significant leadership experience to effectively manage teams to meet deadlines and achieve department goals.
  • Experience collaborating with various stakeholders to produce projects and programs that respond to needs in the community.
  • Innovative perspectives to be able to adapt our offerings and direction as necessary to meet the needs of high school students.
  • Program management experience.
  • Familiarity with graphic design software (Canva and/or Adobe), social media management software, social media platforms, Microsoft Office, and Google Suite.
  • Experience in delivering identity-specific presentations/curriculum.
