As a core member of the Human Resources in Payroll, the Head of Payroll (United States & Puerto Rico) will be leading four managers and their teams, responsible for end-to-end payroll delivery: Payroll Time, Payroll Operations, Payroll Tax and Payroll Accounting. In this role, you will be working with our vendors: ADP & BSI, across HR, IS and the business units to implement best practices, facilitate lessons learned, execute Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) and divestitures, and overall excellent service delivery. Additionally, the role sets deadlines and effectively coordinates activities to deliver on objectives. The role also drives process improvements and assists in the evaluation and redesign of processes and technical solutions. This role will work in-person in our Cary, NC office location.

Your responsibilities

  • Ensures that US and Puerto Rico payroll services are delivered in accordance with all ABB policy directives and in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Proposes and implements the strategic direction of the US Payroll Services organization
  • Builds and maintains vendor relationships
  • Manages a team of individuals that supports the ABB US model for payroll services. These individuals provide subject matter expertise related to payroll operations
  • Ensures that associated accounting transactions follow US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and ABB’s corporate accounting policy
  • Drives implementation of streamlined practices and processes across areas of responsibility which will result in cost reduction, improved internal control, process efficiency and excellent customer (employee) satisfaction
  • Recruits, retains and develops talented team members
  • Builds strong working relationships with various cross-functional groups throughout Human Resources
  • Assists with resource allocation and resolution of resource conflicts
  • Champion ABB core values and LEAN initiatives
  • Partner with other managers, Human Resources Business Partner's (HRBPs), and key stakeholders regarding payroll changes

Your background

  • Bachelor’s Degree (in HR, Business Administration or Finance,) or management experience preferred
  • Minimum of 10 plus years of payroll experience; 5 plus years managing direct reports
  • CPP designation preferred
  • Must have experience with SAP and Workday
  • Experience in a shared services environment is preferred
  • Knowledge of HR practices, laws, policies and procedures is a plus
  • Exceptional analytical, communication and leadership skills
  • Proficiency with technology programs and platforms - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook Email, Outlook Calendar
  • Ability to appropriately prioritize work
  • Strong detail orientation and time management skills
  • Professional demeanor and strong executive presence
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
