The Harvest Manager will be responsible for the harvest activities of all Ratto Bros, Inc. commodities. You will assist in crop production activities such as weeding and thinning. This position will be hands-on and work closely with our harvest supervisors/crew members and crop production managers to ensure the harvesting, packing, and field transportation activities meet daily production and quality standards. You will ensure harvest practices and protocols lead towards consistent and high-quality finished products. This position is expected to train, motivate, and instill the company mission into the work performed by every employee. Daily administrative tasks will be required such as daily forecast quantities, inventory of all harvest materials and supplies, scheduling crews, creating the daily harvest list and updating the availability list.

This position will require travel between Modesto, CA and Yuma, AZ.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall direction and coordination of all Harvest activities: Estimates, Timing, Quality, Yields, Supplies
  • Inspects fields to determine maturity dates of crops to estimate harvest timing and quantity.
  • Analyze the production and labor efficiencies of the harvest crews including contractor crews.
  • Communicates daily production expectations to the crew leaders to achieve piece rate harvest goals.
  • Creating weekly estimates of harvest totals based on field supply
  • Ensure harvest crews are properly staffed according to the workload that needs to be completed.
  • Communicating on a daily basis with the Facility, Harvest, and Grow Managers to ensure that all operations are running smoothly and meet or exceed quality and production standards.
  • Ensure that productivity standards are being met and measured.
  • Resolve work problems and issues, along with ensuring compliance with all safety work rules and laws.
  • Makes work adjustments, as needed throughout the day, to meet production schedules.
  • Resolves any quality control and production issues that may arise.
  • Work closely with leads & HR to carry out supervisory responsibilities for employees in accordance with the Company’s policies and applicable labor laws.
  • Spearhead the development, communication and implementation of effective harvest strategies and processes
  • Inspect all commodity products prior to harvest and communicate any specification deviations or foreign object contamination potential.
  • Direct harvest crew Supervisors regarding quality and quantity of pack required.
  • Daily coordinate with Sales to ensure daily production is in line with current orders.
  • Plan daily harvest logistics.
  • Communicate daily on daily pack-out quantities and quality.
  • Must be familiar with and implement appropriate Food Safety Programs.
  • Must develop a firm understanding of the quality of all fields in production at all times through strong communication as well as physical in-field inspections
  • Must be able to anticipate all possible produce degradations, identify degradation factors, and determine course of action to minimize their impacts to the harvest pack.
  • Monitor product aging of all crops in ranch locations.
  • Work with PCA’s to determine when to spray and what the target is.
  • Work with Irrigation department to determine the timing of water to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain and update as needed Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for all harvest processes and procedures in accordance with the food safety and food security requirements
  • Create and foster a culture of safety, performance, and job satisfaction.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years’ experience in an agricultural environment, preferably in vegetables with knowledge in harvesting operations and piece rate.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and oral.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Strong analytical and reasoning abilities.
  • Must be proficient in the use of standard software programs.
  • High degree of initiative, creativity, and problem solving ability.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills. Ability to get along well with diverse personalities, cultural backgrounds, and languages.
  • Proactive attitude and strong organizational skills
  • Strong knowledge of GAP’s, Primus, LGMA, CCOF,
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred
  • Valid Driver’s license

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
