POSITION:
ATTENDANCE TEACHER (6 positions available)
The Attendance Teacher will conduct home visits and provide resources to families of students with attendance of less than 92% in schools. The Attendance Teacher will conduct home visits and perform remaining duties at a DOE location.
LOCATION:
Varied locations throughout the five boroughs
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
New York City Department of Education licensed and appointed Attendance Teacher
SELECTION CRITERIA:
- Applicants must be available to conduct in person home visits in accordance with the DOE’s Home Visit Guidelines.
- Satisfactory performance for the past two years.
- If previously served as a teacher covered by Advance, no substantiated allegations of misconduct stemming from an OEO, OSI or SCI investigation or any misconduct that has led to the filing of disciplinary charges while covered by Advance (does not preclude teachers with less than three years of service).
- Satisfactory record of attendance and punctuality.
- Proven record of documented outreach through ILOG system.
- Evidence of strong written and verbal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively and appropriately interface in an in-depth manner with absentee students and their families.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively maintain a record of available resources across the community to support with removing barriers to attendance.
- Ability to work with parents and chronically absent students.
- Satisfactory experience in conducting outreach visits to homes.
- Demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities working with ATS, and ILOG
- Demonstrated ability to retain document-based portfolios regarding outreach efforts for individual schools and students.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of the District Superintendent team, the Attendance Teacher will:
- Conduct home visits to students and families as identified by the activity supervisor in accordance with the DOE’s Home Visit guidelines.
- Engage in other forms of outreach to identified students/families including but not limited to phone calls, emails, etc.
- Provide resources to students/families.
- Enter all interactions, barriers of attendance, and resources provided to families in iLog on at least a weekly basis.
- Support with communications to the schools at which the identified students are enrolled to provide updates, gather additional information, etc.
- Other duties and responsibilities required by the program in accordance with the UFT Collective Bargaining Agreement
WORK SCHEDULE:
- Hours to be completed after regularly scheduled workday and weekends, as needed.
- 20 hours total
Hours up to, but not limited to the approximate number of hours listed. Additional hours granted upon the approval of the hiring manager.
SALARY:
Per Session rates as per the relevant union/organization of the advertised title (Collective Bargaining Agreement). Contingent upon funding availability and programmatic approval.
