SUMMARY: The Group Sales Manager is responsible for generating group sales activities for the Wilderness at the Smokies within the specified market segment. This individual will build and manage a database of clients and will implement new forms of prospecting new clients as well as liaise with event planners in order to ensure successful group sales programs and campaigns. The Group Sales Manager is responsible for maintaining those relationships and increasing group revenue streams. Individual must be able to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, days, evenings, holidays, extended (long) workdays for an extended number of days as needed.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time. • Explore traditional and non-traditional group sales opportunities for the facility and its events. • Prospect for new business. • Maximizing current key accounts by identifying and capturing those that offer revenue growth potential for the resort.
- Represent the facility to all potential facility users. • Conduct facility tours and make formal presentations to convention and exhibition managers and other facility users regarding facility booking policies, rental rates, services and operational policies. • Conduct background checks on prospective events. • Interpret and explain booking and scheduling policies and procedures to potential facility users.
- Assist facility users in finalizing booking arrangements. • Target markets to include groups between 10 and 40 rooms per night: tour and travel, social including family reunions, class reunions, weddings, small religious groups, school groups and other markets as assigned by the Director of Sales • Focus would be to contact groups of 10-40 rooms per night • Achieve/exceed assigned sales goals • Contact potential clients and make follow-up contact to support Sales calls, Sales visits, e-mail campaigns etc. • Negotiate and implement facility agreements • Manage group sales activity that he/she contracts • Must complete all necessary paperwork to perform the job duties • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: (Level 5) Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. REASONING ABILITY: (Level 4) Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: • Valid Tennessee Driver’s License or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Willingness to perform any required task within associate’s capabilities in order to effectively meet the needs of the company.
Ability to get along well with others. Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Must be willing to learn and understand use of reservation systems, including V1. QUALIFICATIONS: • Strong leadership skills and ability to motivate people • Requires good negotiation and listening skills • Ability to act independently with little supervision • Hands on manager, well organized, detail oriented, creative thinker • Skilled in problem solving and staff training • Efficiently handle multiple duties • Requires the ability to operate various office equipment to include a computer, word processing, spreadsheets, voice mail, copier, fax, and calculator • Requires a good understanding of company policies and procedures • Working knowledge of resort amenities, room designs, and general golf knowledge • Ability to handle stressful situations • Good attendance and punctual.
