General Responsibilities:
As a Geophysical Department Manager, you will oversee a geophysics department of 9 staff with the expectation of growing the department. The Sonoma County office is currently a satellite of our full-service office in Lodi, California. The plan is to incorporate other service lines into the Sonoma County office in the future.

The manager will also perform a comprehensive range of near-surface geophysical technologies in support of geologic, groundwater, environmental, engineering, and materials testing investigations. This will include defining survey objectives, designing survey approaches, writing proposals, analyzing the resulting geophysical data, and providing written interpretations of the results. The candidate will also lead safety efforts for the team and ensure safety rules and guidelines are followed.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee a small sized geophysics department/satellite office with the intention of expanding to multiple service lines in the future.
  • Focus will be directed to the management of specific projects and directing employee utilization for each project as needed.
  • Monitor job status reports and coordinate projects with staff.
  • Lead safety efforts for the team and ensure they follow all safety rules and guidelines. Responsible for creating and modeling a safe work environment. Promote pre-task planning for all projects. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
  • Senior-level, experienced Geophysicist responsible for training, managing, and conducting near-surface geophysical surveys and making recommendations for design on all sized projects with a variety of complexity.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in the use of ground penetrating radar, magnetometry, terrain conductivity, electrical resistivity profiling, electrical resistivity sounding, seismic refraction, MASW, and utility locating methods, among others.
  • With support from the Terracon National Manager of Geophysics, manage a team of geophysical staff in the region, including project managers and field staff from other offices. Must be willing to train and mentor staff so that work can be delegated. The candidate must be a growth-minded individual looking to advance their career in the field of geophysics.
  • With support from the Lodi Office Manager and others, prepare and execute an annual business plan for the department.
  • Oversee and manage the success of the key department metrics of revenue growth, staff chargeability, project billing and collections, and project profitability.
  • Develop an understanding and awareness of project-related risk and be familiar with company risk policies.
  • Direct and supervise field staff to test and collect geophysical data and/or document site activities.
  • Monitor performance of teams and facilitate training, site visits, quality audits, and safety incident investigations.
  • Responsible for overseeing and maintaining quality standards on all projects.
  • Interact with the Division Manager, National Account Managers (NAMs), other Department Managers, and Region-Level leadership to promote awareness of geophysical services.
  • Participate with other geophysical subject matter experts (SMEs) on large, more complex projects.
  • Responsible for developing written proposals to clients for both small and large projects, including quality control review of proposals written by others.
  • Evaluate complex geophysical data, make interpretations, and prepare written reports.
  • Duties may include serving as a team member or lead in meetings and communications with clients pertaining to specific projects/tasks.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geophysics, or related field.
  • Minimum 5-10 years’ experience.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Must be a Professional Geophysicist (PGp) registered in California or obtain the PGp within a year.

The expected salary range for this position is listed below. The base range may be adjusted based on the specific location of the applicant. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
