Job Summary
The General Maintenance Worker will provide a variety of janitorial and general maintenance work, to include: cleaning designated areas to provide a safe environment, providing routine maintenance to equipment, assisting with snow removal from door entrances and sidewalks, assisting with classroom and special event setup, ensuring the security and safety of assigned work areas and college property as well as assisting students, employees and the public, as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform assigned cleaning including daily, weekly, and annual cleaning tasks in a professional manner to ensure clean and safe buildings and grounds for all students, staff and visitors.
- Perform routine maintenance to equipment to ensure they are in safe working order when needed.
- Perform classroom, office and special event setup to ensure facilities are setup as requested.
- Perform snow and ice removal to ensure clean and safe door entries and sidewalks for students, employees and the public.
- Perform security and safety duties and inspections to ensure student, college and state property is safeguarded and the college is following all regulations. Duties include but are not limited to: being responsible for locking and unlocking the building according to the building’s operating hours or event schedule; physically verifying that all doors are locked or unlocked according to the appropriate schedule; walking through the building to verify there are not any non-staff persons within the building during secured hours; contacting the appropriate authorities for safety and security violations; reporting any safety and security concerns to your supervisor and the appropriate reporting party.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of chemical cleaning agents such as ammonia, bleach and soaps sufficient to appropriately select the agent(s), handle, apply, and dispose of safely.
- Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.
- Ability to perform assigned tasks with limited work direction.
- Ability to keep simple records.
- Must hold and maintain a valid Minnesota Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of different types of flooring and floor covering sufficient to determine proper cleaning methods, agents and equipment.
- Knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance to operate safely and make minor repairs.
- Knowledge of State OSHA/Right to know regulations.
- Ability to prioritize work and be flexible during frequent interruptions.
- Ability to use business software such as email, word processing, internet to access document data and training.
Physical Requirements
- Physical requirements include having the health and endurance sufficient to perform work functions such as:
- Using hand tools.
- Lifting 50 pounds.
- Working in adverse weather conditions.
- Working above ground level such as on ladders and scaffolding.
Additional Requirements
