MMEDIATE OPENING for a Full-Time Physician (Gastroenterologist) to support the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in Maryland.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.).
  • Education: Graduate from an accredited medical school in the United States or Canada.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year experience within preceding 3 years in the specialty (d)
  • Board Certification: Board certification by the American Board of Gastroenterology
  • Licensure/Registration: Possess a valid unrestricted current license to practice as a Gastroenterologist in at least 1 state, territory or commonwealth of the U.S. and will at a minimum be Board Eligible.
  • Possess a current Drug Enforcement Agency registration for controlled substances

Specific tasks and duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Perform full range of medical services to diagnose, treat, and manage patients care as required, and in strict compliance with standing orders and protocols set forth by the military treatment facility (MTF).
  • Examine, diagnose, and treat of gastroenterological aliments and diseases.
  • Prepare and review case histories and obtain data through interviews of patients.
  • Prescribe specific medication(s), diet, treatment modalities and oversee nursing personnel in patient care and treatment.
  • Admit and discharge patients to the wards appropriately for gastrointestinal related ailments or diseases.
  • Make necessary rounds to inpatients, as needed.
  • Provide consultation services for members of the MTF staff for purposes of specialty area training.
  • Provide advice and opinions upon request by the Chief of Gastroenterology or the referring physician in support of patient care and treatment.
  • When necessary provide a Statement on Evaluation of Fitness IAW AR-40-501 and provide completion of Medical Evaluation Board (MEB) dictation and paperwork.
  • Shall be responsible for providing medical care during the required work hours, including routine call, as designated by the medical treatment facility (MTF), and shall provide immediate evaluation and management of emergent problems as they occur.
  • Shall assume additional administrative or clinical duties as requested or needed to ensure sustainment of normal clinic operations and ensure compliance with JC standards as per the direction of the department chief.
