POSITION/LOCATION
Consumers Energy seeking a Gas Storage Geologist. This position may be based in any of our statewide Michigan locations and is eligible for a hybrid work model. Regular travel (approximately 20%) to our 15 gas storage fields located in Marion/Cadillac, Overisel, St. Clair, and Northville, MI will be required as needed.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Gas Storage Geologist will provide engineering support for the gas storage strategy development, planning, and implementation for a safe and efficient gas storage system. The position will focus on new well drilling and re-entry work including developing reservoir models, determining directional plans, and geosteering while drilling. The position will also support and assist additional alternative subsurface energy storage projects associated with Consumers Energy's system. The position will lead and support reservoir modeling, interpretation and evaluation of subsurface geologic data, core acquisition, seismic acquisition, and interpretation, petrophysical analysis, and other interpretations from log analysis.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and/or assist with strategy development, planning, and implementation for an efficient gas storage system
- Lead projects associated with reservoir model development, interpretation and evaluation of subsurface geologic data, core acquisition, seismic acquisition, and interpretation, petrophysical analysis, and other interpretations from log analysis
- Lead and/or assist with engineering projects associated with new well drilling or re-entry work to include design, directional plans, specifications, reports, maps, environmental impacts, permits, geohazard review, data collection, construction observation, geosteering, and field investigation
- Lead and/or assist with projects associated with alternative subsurface energy storage
- Use computer assisted software and equipment to analyze and evaluate information for new well drilling or well workover activities. This may include preparing maps and other visuals to align stakeholders and document results
- Attend and/or lead internal and external meetings and provide effective communication to stakeholders on progress, problem solving, and development of projects
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
This position will be filled as a General Engineer II or General Engineering Technical Analyst II based on the following qualifications:
- General Engineer II Bachelor’s degree in Geological Engineering from an ABET accredited university, and a minimum of four (4) or more years of applied engineering working experience including experience working with mapping software such as GIS, IHS Petra, Schlumberger Petrel, etc.
- General Engineering Technical Analyst II Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geophysics, or Environmental Science, and four (4) or more years of applicable work experience including experience working with mapping software such as GIS, IHS Petra, Schlumberger Petrel, etc.
OR, Associate’s degree in a scientific/technical field, and a minimum of nine (9) years of related technical work experience
OR, if no degree, a minimum of thirteen (13) years of related technical work experience
PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS
- Proficiency with Michigan Basin Geology
- Basic understanding of Gas Storage
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable to new assignments and projects
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Must possess the attitude and aptitude to learn new skills and concepts and adapt quickly to new situations
- Ability and willingness to work independently or as part of team to complete tasks
- Experience working with Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, including being able to create presentations and spreadsheets
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
