The mission of the Office of Homeless Services (OHS) is to make homelessness rare, brief and non-recurring. OHS works collaboratively with a broad-based network of public and private providers focused on utilizing practices that are informed by data, honor the different perspectives of all stake holders and are trauma informed. OHS works to maximize resources while monitoring emerging trends, tracking progress and shifting priorities as needed.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Food Services, the Food Services Special Events Manager will provide programmatic and administrative support to the Office of Homeless Service’s Food Services Unit.

The Food Services Unit manages OHS’s State funding for food services, food warehouse operations, contracts with food service providers, and the Philadelphia Food Access Collaborative. The Unit works to increase access to nutritious and appealing food for OHS’s network of shelters and free meal providers in Philadelphia.

The Food Services Special Events Manager will manage projects for the Food Services Unit, OHS and support the Unit’s communications with anti-hunger partners. The Food Services Special Events Manager will also support OHS’s Director of Food Services and Chief of Staff with administrative tasks.

Employer: Office of Homeless Services, City of Philadelphia

Workdays: Monday-Friday with occasional weekend and evening hours as required.

Hours: 7.5 hours daily, 9:00-5:00pm

Location: Apple Tree Family Center (1430 Cherry St., Philadelphia, PA 19102)

Reports to: Director of Food Services

Duties:

  • Manage special projects that support the Food Services Unit’s goal of increasing access to nutritious meals for vulnerable Philadelphians or as assigned;
  • Support OHS’s Chief of Staff for special events and assigned duties;
  • Create meeting agendas, schedule meetings, record meeting minutes, and support next steps;
  • Support data entry and reporting for OHS’s State funding allocation through the State Food Purchasing Program (SFPP);
  • Work with the OHS Fiscal and Contracts units to ensure food service contract compliance and timely and accurate reporting;
  • Coordinate with the OHS Communications unit to effectively communicate OHS’s important role in providing food for homeless and vulnerable populations in Philadelphia and to support other OHS communication work as assigned;
  • Outreach to, relationship building with and engagement of volunteer organizations who are highly motivated to alleviate hunger by providing meals to people living on the streets of Philadelphia;
  • Focus on engaging and recruiting meal providers in Kensington and Center City;
  • Supervise Food Access Fellow(s) and support project oversight for AmeriCorps VISTAs working in the Food Services Unit.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university required
  • 2 to 5 years of experience of project management with multiple stakeholders in a government or non-profit setting
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Must be available to work evening and weekend hours as required
